Report on last night's Paisley party

Firstly, there was NO performance. I didn't even see Prince in the house. And it seems like I had to wait an ETERNITY before I got to hear some new music. Then, the video screens lit up. The entire commercial for the 7cd sampler set was played. The host of the commercial is virtual...not unlike the one that hosts Video Soul (?) on BET. Not very interesting but whatever. Then, we saw the "I Dont Know Why I Win Awards" acceptance speech that was played at the Yahoo awards for when he won best internet single with "One Song". THAT was cool. If you haven't heard it, it's pretty funky. It's a short little throwaway number with a stuttery hip hop beat and his multi layered vocals. Cool. Next, we saw another commercial advertising songs from what sounds like will be either him or the NPG's next cd. It started off with a REALLY interesting-sounding ballad that sounded somewhat reminiscent of "The Question Of U" and "The One". I could DEFINITELY hear guitar in the song and it sounded like it was just about to kick in as the snippet ended. I can hardly remember any of the lyrics except for "When I pull ur hair..." and something about never truly knowing pain until I blahblahblah. I couldn't quite hear the refrain, sorry. The beat was definitely a drum machine but it sounded good to me....and I'm certainly no Kirky J fan. The video sucks. It looks VERY cheap as did the next video (The Daisy Chain). He's standing there on a cloud, maybe? And his band is there. But there are close up shots of him and Geneva dancing together and interpreting the song through "dance". It's like a low budget version of the video for "The One" without a beautiful girl/good dancer and Prince looking not as good, either. "The Daisy Chain" was next. This video was mad cheap lookin, too. And when I say this I mean like "Come On" but less creative if you can believe that. I don't have too much to add to other people's descriptions of the video except that the flowers that they're zooming in on are not daisies. In fact, its those flower props that Prince used during the Lovesexy tour. He STILL has them! You know, the ones that pop up during the second act of the show? DVS DOES look like Eminem with brown hair...but he doesnt look as embarrassing as Tony M. He didnt look embarrassing at all, actually. I was too embarrassed by the quality of the video to notice, maybe. I would comment on his flow but the DJ started playin music again before I could hear it. The song is basically spare funk. A harder drum machine beat, kinda midtempo. And a funky bass line. The only words I remember are, "Bless my soul! Say my name! Aint never goin down 2 the Daisy Chain". The Bless my soul say my name part is substitued with different lyrics each time the refrain comes up. And "never goin down 2 the daisy chain" is sometimes sung in distorted vocals a la Nine Inch Nails. I think this tune could grow on me. Those are the tunes I usually end up liking the best. The ones that I dont like right way. Anyway, the first song, whatever it's called is EXCELLENT. They both were cool, actually. We heard another snippet of a song with Kip and some chic. Sounded okay. Can't really describe it. And that's all, folks. Maybe I'll go back next Friday in hopes to hear "Golden Parchute", "Super Cute" and "Get U High".
