Tour Negotiations Discussed In New Book

Australian fans may be interested in a new book out from Hodder books called "The Promoters - Inside Stories From The Australian Rock Industry" by Stuart Coupe (ISBN - 0733615031).

The book is a behind the scenes look at promoters, such as Michael Gudinski, Michael Coppel, Michael Chugg, Kevin Jacobsen and Paul Danity (who handled the 1992 Diamond & Pearls Australian Tour) and their tour stories over the past few decades.

Included are stories on all kinds of acts from U2 to Madonna (who was paid up to $9 Million for her Australian tour), through to the Barry White tour fiasco.

Relevant info concerning Prince (and the politics of the Diamond & Pearls tour) appears in a chapter entitled "Hands Off My Tour!" on pages 247, 248 & 249.

There was a huge struggle with the above promoters to bring Prince to Australia that still elicits to this day, strong feelings from both Gudinski and Chugg, who regard losing handling Prince to Paul Dainty as "our biggest fuckup as a touring company"

It's an interesting read, and gives some insight as to why Prince (as far as promoters go from Australia's end) hasn't toured back to Australia since 1992.

Interesting Gudinski says it "hurt" seeing Paul Dainty make so much money from the D&P tour, but in hindsight, Prince and his entourage were an extremely demanding bunch that he didn't "need or want those sort of headaches"

The book also has a chapter on stars' backstage demands, which briefly includes a mention of Prince (which sounds like they ripped the info off "The Smoking Gun" website). They mention how his food has to be covered with plastic wrap, and how he gets his B-12 injection before the show.

As a side note to Australian fans, "Possessed" By Alex Hahn has an Australian Distributor (though no release date). The Australian distributor is Bookwise International Pty Ltd. They're based in Adelaide, and their contact number is (08) 8268 8222

If you live in Australia, most book stores and department stores sell it.

Otherwise, i guess you could find it on the internet at an Australian bookseller website

what's B-12? a pain killer?

Sorry I made my own research and it didn't cross my mind to relate it to vitamin B 12... I'm sure loads of artists use this have all the vitamins the body needs and be healthy onstage...
