Marilyn Manson Adopts Prince-Like Symbol



(9/4/00, 1 p.m. ET) - Marilyn Manson will try to pull off a Prince move on his forthcoming album, Holy Wood: In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death, by adopting a symbol--the sign for Mercury--as his new name.
The shock rocker says on his website (marilynmanson.com) that the symbol and concept of Mercury are based on what is left of the biblical Adam, representing the primacy and androgyny associated with the mythical first man.

Funnily enough, even though it is credited as the original source, http://MarilynManson.com/news/ only mentions this in an old post, saying "I have adopted the symbol of MERCURY and shed my skin once again to feed the fake. My name is still Marilyn Manson and I am here to stay and make each of you that fears, doubts, laughs at or hates me suffer as much as possible. Or at least rock."
