Howard Stern mentions Prince & Larry Graham/Santana sample issue.



This morning's show contained the following:



Howard Stern: Hey, you know who's a wierd dude? Uh, Prince.



Robin Quivers: Yeah, what about him?



HS: Did you read that article in the paper today?



Bobabooey: No, but are you talking about the whole thing that happened with his kid?



HS: No, forget that they don't even know...is that kid alive or dead?



RQ: No, that kid's dead.



BB: That kid's dead but there was a rumor that they kept saying that the kid was alive when the kid was really dead so he could go out and promote his record.



HS: Yeah, I don't know.



BB: A month later, they announced the kid was dead.



HS: He's a wierd dude. He has a website evidently, Prince you know, he's really involved with the internet & you know he hates record companies & he wants to distribute his own music & all that kind of stuff. So it said today that he was listening 2 some record...he was listening to some record and he says "Oh man, they're ripping off some other record." He's trying to get some artist like to admit that he's....



RQ: & it wasn't even his record.



HS: No. He's like hell bent on exposing some guys sampling a record. Just a wierd little item in the newspaper & I went whats this guys problem?



RQ: You'd think he'd be consumed with other things.



HS: Like making his own music. (Finds newspaper article) Here it is, Prince won't lay off Carlos Santana (Sounds surprised). At a press conference in May, the Purple funkster alledged that the grammy winning guitar God sampled work from Larry Graham without his permission.



RQ: Uh, why can't Larry Graham take care of that?



HS: I don't know.



BB: You know, he talked about that in the press conference & we didn't know what he was talking about.



HS: "People, would this be copyright infringement", Prince asks archly. Reps for Santana didn't return calls. He's got some bug up his ass about Santana.



RQ: Yeah cuz he's selling records I guess.

Pretty damn sad that THIS is what we have to talk about in the year 2000 with regards to Prince. We SHOULD BE DISCUSSING NEW MUSIC. Prince, get back in the game you fool. Leave Larry's battles for Larry to handle.
