Sign O the Times DVD

In case this is interesting to anyone: I ordered a Sign O the Time DVD from Amazon last February and it finally arrived. It seems to be an import (since the packaging is written in Spanish and features none of the artwork associated with the movie). Upon playing the DVD, the movie is indeed on the DVD, but it is a copy from a film as opposed to any type of high-tech digital transfer (am I using the correct terms?) - as a result, you can see film scratches, there one skip in the film (of about a second), and the print is a bit darker than normal. Still, until the real thing comes out, it's nice to have and worth the $19 bucks...

[So, it's the same one they were selling down in Brazil(?). I have that one too and it's not so great, but easier to deal with than finding a LD player to play the real thing on smile -Ben]

The picture quality is terrible on this DVD. The VHS is 10x better. You could probabbly make yourself a better DVD yourself by copying the VHS to your hard drive and burning it to disk.

That may be true if you own a new VHS copy, but the one I've got has disintergrated so much, so for me, the DVD is much better.

I always thought the sound quality on the VHS sucked. I was hoping this was a transfer from the laser disc, which I don't know where to buy (I do have a laser disc player). Unfortunately, the first thing I noticed when playing the DVD in DD 5.1 sound was tape hiss.

argh.

Why can't the people who own this (I forget who it is) do a real DVD?

Also, I really thought that Amazon would have figured out if this was a legitimate release or not before they shipped them out.

Is it so hard to remember that PRINCE has the rights to the SOTT movie?

Seek out a LD player and get the laser. I have had the japanese Laserdisc for years and the difference is remarkable. It is pristine and the sound is great! THis DVD , which I have as well, cant compare.

The Brazilian "bootleg" DVD really sucks. I got a DVDr ripped straight from the Laserdisc of SOTT and it SOOO much better than this crap DVD thats being sold on Amazon. If anyone wants a decent DVD of SOTT, get the one going around thats ripped from the Laserdisc. It would be nice if SOTT got a good remastering job since the film is quite old, but the sound is still fantastic!!

I just bought the DVD yesterday at a local record/CD show and I wasn't that disappointed. Just got done watching it and enjoyed it. I have it on VHS too but when I saw just the one copy of the DVD I had to buy it, lest I had buyers regret when the record show was long gone. Right now I'm watching the The Mill festival from 1999.

Oh, don't even try to argue that point with Bart. he'll tell you Prince is responsible for world hunger if you let him.
