On July, 25th Maceo Parker and his xcellent band performed a 2 hours FUNKY
show at the Nice Jazz Festival. Maceo's son and rapper in the band Corey
took the
stage and introduced his father : the show were ready 2 make people dance
and SHAKE and IT was the beginning of a FUNKY night ! after playing
materials from his new album "Dial : Maceo" the Godfather of saxophone said
:
"there's many famous people on our new album like Ani Di Franco, Sheryl Crow
and... PRINCE ! IT is NOW the moment 2 play 2 songs written by PRINCE :
'Baby Knows' and 'The Greatest Romance Ever Sold'..." What a fantastic
guitar solo on 'Baby Knows' from Maceo's guitar player that was called by Mr
Parker : "a real Paisley Park guitarist !"... And a beautiful version of
'The Greatest Romance Ever Sold' (not 2 much different from Maceo's album)
after he said :
"peace 2 PRINCE... And the Revolution !!!" (was IT a scoop of a re-beginning
or a funny mistake ?!)... The rest of the show gave us big covers like 'Sing
a
simple song' from Sly or 'Georgia on my mind' from Mr Ray Charles... What 2
say 'bout the 9 Maceo's musicians and vocals ? A big band (eye should B so happy 2 see and hear a big band like this behind my purple idol)... But the
night were not really finished : with my friends Yann and James we went 2
Maceo's
hotel 2 wait 4 him... And what a surprise 2 see Maceo's just going down the
taxi with...
The 'Rave Un2 The Year 2000' jacket ! eye said : "what a nice jacket Mr
Parker !
did PRINCE give U IT ?" And Maceo 2 answer : "No, eye bought IT !!" Do we
have really 2 B
surprised that Maceo Parker worked with him and that he bought his own
jacket ? Eye'm not !... After getting a few autographs on cds we took a
picture all 2gether and Maceo took the way of his hotel room (he seemed
tired)...
