Just saw "Extra"--the TV entertainment magazine show,
broadcast Thursday 7/27 - Friday 7/28, and they did a
profile of Vanity. Nothing new, except that the reporter
really played up the contrast between "Vanity" and "Denise
Matthews" and suggested that Prince was responsible for
Vanity's fall into drugs and despair, which Vanity
corrected... Here's the relevant portion:



(Reporter voice over Vanity images):

...He[Prince] christened her "Vanity" which means among
other things "worthlessness," and dressed her up in
provocative black lingerie. Under Prince's direction, her
girl band Vanity 6 climbed the pop charts with songs like
"Nasty Girl" and "Wet Dream." Looking back, the sex, drugs,
and rock 'n' roll lifestyle seems more like a nightmare.




Vanity: I hated everything about Vanity, and...



Reporter: Why were you doing it?



Vanity: Well, you know, get tied up into greed, you get
tied up in the money, you get tied up in drugs. It's the
devil, and he gets you so consumed with what you're doing.




Reporter: Did people like Prince, are they the ones that
got you into drugs?



Vanity: Oh, no, no, no. Prince didn't do that. He was
against drugs.
