Just a follow up to above - DO NOT BUY this DVD, It is the Brazilian bootleg version - mediocre quality and missing a few songs that are on the VHS version. Mine is already on the way back to Amazon for return...

It's just the jacket that has the songs missing as the DVD is the exact same as the movie. [This message was edited Mon Apr 7 17:45:12 PDT 2003 by lovemachine]

How did a bootleg infiltrate itself into the regular mainstream market?
And you would think that Prince would want to do something about this movie (like releasing it properly & cutting off the bootleg sales *hint*hint*)!

You know what really sucks about this. There was a LazerDisc version of SOTT, which means that a person with even mediocre equip. could have used that as a source and made a tits boot, but instead people are getting low quality, tracks missing, crap. I wouldn't care if it's a boot if they would have used the digital source and included everything. That shouldn't be that hard for someone to do. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH BOOTLEGGERS THESE DAYS! :sheesh:

I doubt that Prince could get it re-released if he wanted to. I think Warners is in control of the film and any potential DVD would have to be their decision. I doubt there is a huge market for this DVD, so I don't think they will bother. I'd buy one, but I don't think it would be a big seller for them. If so, we'd probably have a Purple Rain letterbox DVD by now.

Actually, "SOTT" the movie, is own by MCA.
Warner Bros. wouldn't put up money for the film after the disapointing "UTCM". It's all up to MCA. ..."holding someone is truly believing"

The Australian version (region 4) of the Purple Rain DVD is in widescreen (letterbox). There are no extras at all though.

it is indeed the Brazilian version...stay away...
i got mine & it does appear to just be copied from the vhs..the only extras are some photos...stuff that you've seen everywhere..a lot from the 'gold' era...a biography in spanish..and a discography...which goes thru 'the rainbow children..' i didn't take the time to check the accuracy of this... it's got a picture on the cover from the '1999' or 'purple rain' era..not sure which..and no inserts... so yeh it's the 'grey market' version... i didn't watch the whole thing so if it's missing any tracks i didn't notice that... i wrote a review on Amazon.com & i encourage everyone else to do the same, cos when you read the reviews, they are for the VHS version..and as we know now, they are definitely not the same...
