Dutch TV says Prince has contributed a cover of the Jimi Hendrix song Red House to a tribute album to honor Hendrix. He calls it Purple House.
Other contributers are Chaka Khan, Bootsy Collins, Jeff Beck, Seal and George Clinton.

He made that "purple" cover on a Spanish TV show called "Séptimo" a few years ago.

I think it's a great choice 4 him Purple house rocked HARD as it was on Rave 2 the year 2000dvd and cable etc.. but 4 Jimi's soul, it was writen RED... P is Purple tho!

Anyone know if there's an article on Jimi's influence on Prince anywhere? If so, please let me know.

It was on the dvd of Rave untill the Year 2000. Purchase that CD-dvd, and you got it. It is sooo worth it... anyone who is not a prince-fan I know, I had listen to it...and now they really dig Prince's music.

I have 5 versions of this some are red, some are purple. One has Maceo on it

He also did it at the Hit-N-Run concert in Dallas...

I think Prince does a fresher cleaner version than Jimi's.
Not that one should compare, I just really dug Prince's version. If it wasn't for the "Maceo taunting" bit from the Rave 2000 gig, I would say use that version. Live is always mo' funky.

He used to cover the song quite a bit back in the '94-95 Europe shows.

I can't believe that Prince choose this song of all the choices he most likely had. I worked and performed briefly with a band named Red House in the 80's through early 90's. We covered Hendrix, Cream, Zeppelin and had gr8t original material too boot. We only did one Prince cover ever and that was "Party Up". Despite the homage to Hendrix, Prince is my fave. I'v seen him in the Boston/Worcester 14X, NY 2x and Charlotte, NC 1x. That he choose Red House is indeed music to my ears. However, the lead guitarist of Red House, Jayhawk Henderson, will forever be the closest any of us will get to Hendrix on stage.
