Perhaps the biggest surprise of the weeklong "Prince: A Celebration" was Macy Gray's performance at one of those late-night Paisley Park parties. But she misread the situation when Princejoined her band on stage. "He started to jam with us," she told the Hartford Courant. They were doing "Sing a Simple Song" by Sly and the Family Stone, whose bassist Larry Graham plays in Prince's band. "The way we do it, though, we use it to segue into 'I Try,'" Gray said, referring to her hit single. "So the band didn't see [Prince] on stage and they went into 'I Try' while he was sitting there. So he got up and walked off stage." Said Gray: "That was pretty bad. That was definitely my lowest moment." (J.B.)
