Anyone remember when Prince donated $37,000 to help the appeal when a town called Princeville flooed a few years back ?There was a number of articles in the old prince.org about it.
Anyone remember the food drives organized at the love4oneanother concerts where people were asked to bring tinned foods for donation to homeless shelters? Anyone remember when the UK Blenheim Palace concert was cancelled in 1990 and Prince offered refunds and exchange tickets out of his own pocket so his fans wouldnt suffer? Just a few little points I thought I'd make off the top off my head ,everyone so busy concentrating on what an awful person Prince seemingly is ,but theres 2 sides to every story and every person.Prince may have treated a few ex-employees badly ,but hes by no means all bad.How about a bit of balance in our arguments eh? It's called "publicity". moonshine said: Anyone remember the food drives organized at the love4oneanother concerts where people were asked to bring tinned foods for donation to homeless shelters?
Wow! Millionaire rock star solves food problem ny asking fans to donate food. Grand total of food drive: couple of hundred bucks of food. Food on rider that got tossed because Prince couldn't be arsed to eat it: probably worth more. Money that Prince took home that evening (money "donated" by fans through buying tickets and merchandise): lots and lots more. Real generous. moonshine said: Anyone remember when the UK Blenheim Palace concert was cancelled in 1990 and Prince offered refunds and exchange tickets out of his own pocket so his fans wouldnt suffer?
Number of cancelled concerts where this didn't happen: lots and lots more. moonshine said: Just a few little points I thought I'd make off the top off my head ,everyone so busy concentrating on what an awful person Prince seemingly is ,but theres 2 sides to every story and every person.Prince may have treated a few ex-employees badly ,but hes by no means all bad.
Number of people that Prince has worked with over the ages: hundreds, probably 1000+. Number of them coming to the first Celebration: a handful. Coincidence? © Bart Van Hemelen

To Bart and Alex H...
I'm a long-time prince fan and respect the man's MUSIC. But i've read enough articles and books (the ones i felt were accurate ones) to know the man's can be a PAin in the ass. I just got through reading Fred WEsley jr's autobiography (hit me fred) and what he says about JAMES Brown are things i heard about in bits and pieces over the years. JB is more flawed than Prince and less talented musically. i bring this up because i respect JB musically but have little respect for him as a person. I suspect Prince (at least the way he was prior to his religious awakening) wouldn't be somebody i'd want to work with and probably wouldn't be a friend of his. Still i can separate WHO he is and admire him for his GOD-give gift...of making womderful music. I will check out your book Alex and give you a fair chance. I always go into books like yours with an open mind. All i care about is its well-researched,funny insightful and makes it hard for me to put down! love and peace to you...(if u don't wanna read it you don't have to!...)

thanx freakyfeet for the kind words.
i understand where every one is coming from. basically, those of us who Love PRince feel very deeply about him. if we didn't we all wouldn't be a part of this fan community. what i find funny is how personal some people are taking this. to be honest,i bet prince probably cares less what his critics think and could care less about a book on him. if he cared -do you think he would have treated many of his peers better over the years? bart's words about very few of his former associates showing up at the celebrations is a telling one. but you can look at it this way. people like sheila, eric leeds seem to maintain ties with Prince which says a lot about their LOYALTY or love of PRn. yeah..i'm gonna read it. and it won't make me HATE the man anymore. like i said i LOVE his music and his talent. and Know he can be a JERK. but that means he's flawed. that doesn't make him any worst than you or i,right?

this. to be honest,i bet prince probably cares less what his critics think and could care less about a book on him. If you don't know what you're talking about, shut up, okay? Prince has BURNED newspaper reviews of his concerts onstage. There's several cases where he performed sub-par concerts because he was pissed of after a bad review. He's bought the rights to at least one biography to prevent it being reprinted. After his albums got too many bad reviews they suddenly stopped posting them on his website claiming they were irrelevant -- these days he uses them as part of artwork to "prove a point". There are NUMEROUS examples of Prince caring so much about criticism (remember when Jon Bream was sumoned to the Park after he'd dare to write a slightly negative piece?), but the thing is that in the end Prince completely misses the point of them. Except for one case: back in 1994/95, when he used a very critical journalistic piece in his album liner notes. © Bart Van Hemelen

Bwahahahaha. Eric has had a very rocky relationship with Prince for several years now, usually relating to Prince forgetting to pay him for stuff. And Sheila E didn't talk to Prince for nearly a decade after he screwed her royally. Matter of fact: back in the early-/mid-1990s, the employees of the NPG Stores could play just about any Prince-related music EXCEPT the Sheila E records. Rosie Gaines -- another one with an on/off relationship -- currently won't even talk about Prince, even if you ask her nicely. © Bart Van Hemelen

1st off - some peeps seem so protective of Prince it's unreal at times. Yeah sure, 'give him a break' and all that, but I doubt this is casuing any ripples inside the Park - let alone great waves, so chill. Needless 2 say - he can fight his own battles if needs be. Just no need 2 get so wrapped up in running 2 his defence every time somebody mentions something a little 'out of line' with the fams. It's all good.
Although It was a while back, I can vouch 4 Alex 2 - He helped Uptown out of that sticky legal wrangle with Prince after he got his panties in a knot with them. Not only that, He offered his time and legal services 4 FREE. As 4 the book itself - bring it on, there are not that many books on Prince still about, and the majority of the ones that have been publised stunk (with only Per Nilson's 'A Documentary' and Liz Jones: 'Slave To The Rhythm' being exceptions that spring 2 mind) And if he makes money...so what? You're point being? Didnt a certain someone not so long ago say: "Freedom - it's a beautiful thing..." After all - I thought that was what America stands 4...isnt it? Freedom of speech, Economic drive, Success, etc, etc It never rains, but it pours! PEACE! xxx "You gotta be true to yourself, cuz yourself is all you got" ~ Janis Joplin
