Report on Sons of Almighty gig

So our boys Sons of Almighty performed Sunday night at The
Quest. I got the door count at 10:30pm, 20 minutes before
they were to go on and it was at 324. Not bad for a
Sunday/Holiday night.

Ira-n-The Cristo Palace opened the night doing songs off
of their CD, Get Ready.
Band members included:
[pre:0deadbeef0]
Mark PM (bass, vocals)
Kelly (keyboards)
Baby T (guitar, vocals)
Mike Mike (percussion, congas)
Windell Henry (drums)
Ira (lead vocals, guitar)
[/pre:0deadbeef0]
Their music was what I would call funky R&B with a hard
rock edge. They even did one hip/hop tune, Step Off.
Mark PM ended the evening with a very soulful Isley
Brother-ish song, Help Me To Decide.

About 10:20 Ira-n-The Cristo Palace left the stage and for
about 30 minutes the Sons of Almighty set up. I noticed
in the house were many familiar faces from Paisley
including staff members, the Blackshire Brothers and party
patrons. There were quite a few faces from the old Glam
Slam days and I was happy to be recognized by a few! All
the tables were full on the bottom level and all the tables
and booths were full on the upper level where I was sitting.
People came closer to the stage for the Sons of Almighty
set and stood/danced on the dancefloor as well. Like I
said, not bad for a Sunday/Holiday night.

Following is the song list and a little something I
remembered about each particular song.
[pre:0deadbeef0]
Save Me (heavy Bass-they broke into the percussion set
from the beginning of Shhhhh at the end of this song)
The Great Tribulation (Michael Bland hits those drums so
hard you think they stole something from him!)
By this time the crowd's heads were bobbin'.
Thy Kingdom Come (Tommy worked the keyboards on this
one-very electronic feel-Jef Lee had dopeass guitar solo)
Nothing For You (mellow, slower beat)
Cry (also mellow-strong vocals-another Jef Lee solo)
Couples were dancing on the floor now.
Feel So Fine (Tommy took us back to church for a minute
with his solo)
Hand Out (mellow-"You got to find yourself...")
Sons of Almighty (signature song-awesome bass solo by Sonny)
Beautiful (slow tune-"The beauty is alive in you and me")
Free (Prince cover-off the hook-Julius really worked those
lungs!)
Welcome To Heaven (funky, funky, funky-"I wanna hear him
say 'Welcome to Heaven'")
To Be True (dance tune-Julius reminded my of Stevie Wonder
on this one)

All-in-all the performance was awesome! Everyone I talked
to were very impressed and loved the show! The band
members were as clean as their set. Michael was looking
mighty stellar in his purple suit and white shirt. His
only difficulty was that his mic kept falling all evening.
He handled it though with a smile!

They surprised some patrons with their gospel feel. I
think most were expecting them to come out singing in a
more mainstream vein. The gospel style was very funky and
each song had a wonderful uplifting message. Probably what
we need in this day and age. They don't preach. They just
give credit where credit is due. In this case it was to
the Almighty.....
