Q article on planned Purple Rain spoof Just read this on Q Online, the website of Q magazine in the UK.
Back when he was still Prince, The Artist's Purple Rain was the definitive eighties movie - overblown musical numbers, posturing in purple - perfect parody material, though it's taken 16 years for a director to give it the Airplane treatment. Filmmaker Jordan Brady is planning Velvet Hail, a spoof of Rain that will also follow the story of a rock star. This time though, the lead will spend his life shopping for pork chops. Speaking to the Los Angeles Daily News, Brady pointed out, "Purple Rain was probably a 45-minute movie if you take out all the musical numbers, a really short story with a bunch of original funk songs." As to who could fulfil the role of 'The Kid', Brady has his sights set on actor and comedian Chris Rock. "Chris would make a great ageing glam rocker." | |
