WebTV Prince Fans



Hello to my fellow Prince fans who have chosen to access the Internet via WebTV.



I am posting this message because I would like to get an idea of the level of interest you may have in the establishment of a WebTV newsgroup for Prince fans.



Some of you may not be aware that the WebTV network has hundreds of different newsgroups covering all kinds of subjects in the alt.discuss hierarchy. That means that these hundreds of WebTV newsgroups are firewalled -- they are not accessible to people using computers. You must have a WebTV system in order to access and participate.



Most WebTV newsgroups are completely open to anyone with WebTV, but some newsgroups -- the "clubs" -- are moderated, meaning a moderator has the authority and the technology to ban trouble-makers from posting in the newsgroup by tagging their WebTV terminal by serial number.



In doing this, it means that any time that someone with a banned terminal tries to send a post to the newsgroup where it has been tagged, his/her post will not appear in the newsgroup -- it will bounce back to their email. This banning of trouble-makers has helped to clear out a lot of trolling, flame wars, and spamming that had plagued certain newsgroups.



I would like to know how many, if any, fans who use WebTV would be interested in having our own alt.discuss.public.clubs.music.prince newsgroup?



We would be able to share our thoughts and comments about Prince/, his life, career, and music, use any HTML that we want, post samples of his music, post pictures of our Prince collections, post pictures of ourselves with items from our collections, post reviews of his weekend Paisley Park parties, post links to Prince-related news, websites, anything and everything about Prince would be more than welcome.



If you are a computer user who does not have a WebTV unit and want to participate in a Prince forum that is truly a Prince forum, a new WebTV classic system -- the basic model -- can be purchased new for about $150.



A complete used and reconditioned basic model can be purchased from eBay for about $75-$100. A WebTV Plus system, which allows you to post vid caps, cost $250 new.
