Chuck D. talks about Prince's Soul Train Award

In the words of Chuck D:



"Speaking of SOUL TRAIN, I had the honor of presenting ‘THE
ARTIST’ with the Decade Achievement Award. It was truly a last
minute request and I’m still floored by it. Of course, I took
the opportunity to address the audience on police brutality, in
the wake of the DIALLO debacle and PROP 21, which didn’t make
the Bay-area in time because of a week delay on showing it.
Anyway, I was pleased at my changes in the script I’d read on
the teleprompter, but wasn’t clear about whether they were
gonna show clips like they did with WHITNEY HOUSTON. After a
short pause I moved it on and ‘The Artist’ came out and read a
liberating piece to the crowd, telling them to recognize
themselves and collective power. When all was said and done he
gave me the poem (already framed and up in the studio) and we
talked about some consolidated efforts in the future…"
