As you know The Artist was given the Dolly Green Special Achievment
Award for his work against animal cruelty. The Genesis
Awards were held last night at the Beverly Hiton in Los
Angeles. I have a friend whom attended the ceremony and this
is what she reported to me. Everyone knew that The Artist
was up for the Award, but no one thought he would attend.
They did not even put his name in the program! Everyone was
STUNNED when at the last he called and said he wanted to be
part of the show!! Maria Conchita Alonso introduced him as
The Artist. He was the last recipient, and upon arriving to
the stage made a joke that on one got, beacause he said it
kinda under his breath!! He said something like "Wow, when I
realized where I was I took off my fur coat"! The audience
was in SHOCK!! He then said, "That was a joke!" The audience
gave him a standing ovation! In his speach he said that he
was very pleased to accept this award and it is something
that he truly believes in. He was very low key and soft
spoken. When Gretchen Wilder spoke about him and how he has
brought the attention of animal rights to many new young
listeners and that he has just opened the door to the
inhumane act of sheep shearing. The Genesis Award Ceremony will
be aired on the Animal Planet on June 10, 2000.
