UPTOWN #41 out on March 31st 2000!



The forthcoming release of DAYS OF WILD will be preceded by issue #41 of UPTOWN. This month’s issue sees UPTOWN reach its ninth year. It includes a closer look at the Batman album, a project perhaps overlooked and underrated in the Prince/ body of work. Another article, We Need U 2 Rap, examines ’s approach to rap and how he has incorporated this into his work, while Talk 2 Me focuses on the interviews has given since September 1999. In Do Me, Baby, we look at other artists’ interpretations of Prince/ songs.



As always, the News section will keep you up-to-date with all things since our last issue, including a scoop that may well end the speculation in the “ community” on whether and Mayte are still a couple. The News section also names four Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic outtakes, possible candidates for inclusion on the forthcoming “Special Edition” of the album (if it will ever be released).



The last few months have seen a great deal of speculation as to whether has completely given up on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic. In issue #41’s Rave Un2 The Future, we look at this subject and shed new light on the discussion. Amongst other things, the feature explains how and why linked with Arista for the release of the album and why the video for “The Greatest Romance Ever Sold” was delayed. Interestingly, it is revealed that the album started out as much more of a pop/rock album, with the “Prince flavour sprinkled throughout.” This feature can also be accessed at http://www.uptown.se, which also contains more information on #41.



Issue #41 heralds a hectic spring, with DAYS OF WILD hot on its heels. Pre-ordered copies of the book (and CD-ROM) will be mailed out as soon as it’s ready, but if you’re one of those people who still haven’t ordered, check our website for details. UPTOWN #42 will be out in May and issue #43 is planned to follow in June/July, despite the fact that our normal schedule is: January 31st - March 31st - May 31st - September 30th - November 30th. This is because, as previously reported in UPTOWN, we took an extended break between #40 and #41 to focus on DAYS OF WILD. We’ll be back on schedule with #44, which will be out by September 30th. That means four issues (#41 to #44) and one book from UPTOWN within six months! isn’t the only one who’s prolific!
