Not that any of those silly reviews count at all, but...
Eminem“s ridiculous, ONA Live rules = Maxim Blender obviously sucks.

If Elijah Wood just knew what he missed because of not having joined NPGMC...
Well, if he had, he knew that Prince kinda had his "comeback" inside the fan community in 2000 starting with the HIGH album and even much more exciting releases like TRC, ONA and the xcellent (sorry, I just love it) XPECTATION.

rolleyes

P.S.: EvilWhiteMale is Quincy Jones - come on man, get over that "We Are The World" bullsh**.

yeah... that really gives me a whole new perspective on "young and beautiful"... joni ain't been young for a long time now...

"they only want your virginity"... and if she's still a virgin at 60 years old, she might as well give it up already... what the hell is she waiting on..?

LOL and I guess that singing to her about Abraham Lincoln being racist, really gets her in the mood for some serious foreplay. "OH Princey, baby. You are sooo wise, I never knew that about Lincoln, tell me more sweet cheeks, you're making me sooo hot."

the music is well-played---but it's also soft-toned and soft-headed.

Huh??...What is "soft-toned" music, anyway??...and what in the world is "soft-headed" music??...
He even disses "Purple Rain," which is silly and charmless.

Good lord...he doesn't diss "Purple Rain"...he disses those who refuse to let him and his music move past "Purple Rain"...there IS a difference, and any nimrod would have picked up that point...well, any nimrod except THIS one, apparently...

...oh hush...

This review is a perfect example of how a fan of a certain Prince "era"... like the 1999/Purple Rain era... simply can't let go of the past. The critics sub-title really says it all,

"Needed: career guidance for pop genius from Minneapolis."

This writer is looking for Prince to be a "pop" genius, and the ONA Live album and tour simply is not that kind of music. So, the fans that really know and love what Prince is doing right now are looking for anything BUT a pop genius. While all the die-hards like me are saying "thank God Prince is putting out something with substance" there are many, many other admirers of Prince that may buy the ONA box set and be hugely disappointed because it's just not the kind of music they Xpect or want to hear from Prince. To be honest, I'm really surprised that I haven't heard more negative reviews for the very reason I've described.

I can't speak for anyone else, I can only speak for me. And all I know is that the music Prince has out right now, from TRC, to ONA Live, to Xpectations is a lot more interesting and satisfying than any so-called "pop" material he's done in a really long time. So if what Prince is doing right now doesn't become popular, then so be it, but at least he's expressing what I believe is in his heart and soul. And if that artistic expression is too complex, too bold, too different for some people to understand or get into, then I guess that's just too bad for them. But as for me, it's ALL good.

I know that people are wishing that Prince released a live album with all of their favorite 80s tracks, and it would have been a great idea, but the fact of the matter is that he did not, he released ONA Live. The critic needs to review the album for what it is, not trash it for what it is not. The album is not "horrible" because it does not contain all the great radio hits, and it is a great live performance, better than many by other artists that I have purchased. Can't please everyone, though.

I (like everyone) has about 20-30 live shows
and this collection rates very low at the bottom
as one of the least exciting, least innovative.

Wish he put out an official live set with Morris, Michael, Sonny and Tommy. smile

~sigh~,..it sure is a good thing Prince has a mind of his own, and doesn't let himself get swept away with what the mass-public "wants", but follows his own heart.

It shows in his music, and I am happy that he does what makes him happy. There ain't many artists out there, who dare working in freedom like he does. Who dare working without a record company who holds their hand and tells them which direction they should go.

I wanna say bad things about this reporter but instead just think: "forgive him, for he does not know what he is saying."

WTF? This person very clearly does not know Princes music and had no business writing about it. If the only 2 highlights for this reviewer were THOSE two songs... please...

This is the first bad review I have ever responded to. This review is blatently been judged by unqualified ears!

Oooohhh, oh my Lord, call the authorities, someone has an opinion that's different from yours. What is this world coming to? The writer must be assimilated so he may love Prince as much as you do. If he does not join you, he must die!

Have u listened to it? Do YOU know what ur talking about?

Rational and reasonable reviews are expected... this was not one of them.

Very well said, thoughtful.

The review shows how limited and un-professional these reviewers are. They know nothing about their subjects, yet spew all this opinion. They simply don't understand Prince. What he's traveled, what he's communicated with all his albums, style and career moves, etc.

The reviewers whether from Blender, Rolling Stone, US Today...or wherever there's a similar shortsited review...should be held up to their claims.

All in all though, reviews are also a form of entertainment. Sometimes meant to scruffle up people who really admire the subject they are reviewing negatively. But what I take offence to is that the REVIEWERS themselves contribute to the IGNORANCE of a generation.

Kids are looking for heroes in music...and reviewers, with their own sad, kiss ass, confused ideas of what makes a "genius" or even worse, a "Pop Genius" (again, Eminem #4 genius...WTF), helps continue the ignorance of a generation who really, deep inside, is looking for what Prince is offering.

A better alternative to the Hip Hop/Pop crap.

I totaly diagree with the reviewer like others but that is not the most frustrating thing about this review. Its that Blender is becoming very popular thanks to its parent magazine Maxim, and Maxim is slowly if not already becoming the most popular "mens magazine". I think Details is going under or already did because of them. These magazines Maxim put out are so inconsitant with their information its horrible. they contradict every thing they say. I have even seen the writers use the phrase" reverse racism" which shows how uneducated these people are. My point is, they will give rave reviews on crap like Limp who-ever and then turn around and dog rocks hero's. They are just like rolling stone, spin and MTV. The majority turns to them for whats hot and whats not, and are the worse source. They only give good reviews to the albums that the labels say are good, not the people. Can you say SELL OUTS- They also act like Prince's live style is something new that he's trying- we know thats not true. JB was king and Prince simply stepped up to the throne to reliev him.
