This was printed in the Daily Press in an editorial regarding the hype on Star Wars:



"Yes I'm party to it.(the hype)I bought some paraphernalia for a friend who is a fan. And, no, I did not stand in line overnight for tickets to be THE FIRST to see the new flick. (Star Wars: Episode I- The Phantom Menace) Many years ago, however, I ~did~ stand in a city-blocks-long line to see a movie starring a musician who now calls himself TAFKAP, or The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. The movie was Purple Rain, and I was a working professional, a newspaper reporter who spent just about every day off in a movie theater. I went to see Purple Rain many, many times(but not as many times as fans of Titanic watched Leo and Kate's love affair). A Purple Rain poster decorated my bedroom wall. I awakened each morning to the Purple Rain soundtrack. I could quote dialogue from the film. And when it came out on video, I snatched up a copy, even though I didn't own a VCR."
