Ottawa Citizen reviews ONA Live box set

From The Ottawa Citizen, Wednesday December 11, 2002 - PAGE E3
(In the feature article "PACKED UP AND READY TO PLEASE" on box-set releases for the holidays submitted by the Newsday wire service):

(Rated #1):
Prince
One Nite Alone... Live
NPG Records, four CDs

* Boxworthiness: This is a treat from start to finish. Prince has augmented his solo album, One Nite Alone, sold only through his Web site, with a box full of goodies that shows that his songwriting skills are as fine as ever. The big surprise is that Prince seems to be enjoying himself again. The live CDs (One Nite Alone... Live) capture him joking with the audience and building a light-hearted rapport, something that had been missing in recent years, as he tackles new songs and classics such as Raspberry Beret and I Wanna Be Your Lover.

* Extras: This set has everything a deluxe package should offer, from the unreleased It Ain't Over jam CD, including an excellent live version of Alphabet St. with the New Power Generation, to a fold-out poster and first-rate jumbo booklet.

* Missing: Nothing, really, though a live version of Kiss or Gett Off would have made it even better.

GRADE: A

Yes - missing nothing, there is only
room for so much. Maybe someday he
will have more LIVE box sets!

I'm really surprised that there's no specific section on npgmusicclub.com about the new box set. Also, none of the retail websites have artwork yet. Seems awfully late considering it hits retail next week.

Oddly no mention of the ONA CD that was included in the member's box set.

He does mention it:

Augmented implies that it is included.

Yep, everyone is gonna have their "what's missing" list. But personally, I could do without another live version of Kiss. Some are going to nitpick (yeah, even me) smile but overall, this is an excellent set of music.
I do wish some of these reviewers could have ventured out to Paisley Park these last few years. Then they could see that Prince has been having fun for quite a few years now.

What's missing? Only: Content. Innovation. Spirit. Positivity. Vibe. Production. Consistency. Nothing major by this threads standards presumably. That's cool. I'll repackage some used junk and sell it to people like you.

If ONA isn't included in the retail version of the box, why does he include it in the boxes for the critics?
Aren't people going to read the review, buy it & then go "Hey, where the hell is the piano CD?!?"?

Puhlease, no Kiss or Gett Off. So not in the style of this tour.
The only thing missing is about 20 minutes on It Ain't Over.

4cds???

The main show - that's two; the aftershow - that's three; the extra piano for your friend - that's four. Four cd's are what's in the package. And they're quite good.

The piano-cd is only sent to the fams who joined the npgmc after the first shipment had already taken place. That's what the npgmc answered me some time ago when i asked them when i would receive my copy.

The ONA-box is a great piece of work to look at.
ans it is of course the first official live-release.
But... I miss the sound (especially drums) that made the songs elevate during the Rotterdam concerts I attended.
"it ain't over" is good. "Joy In Repetition" is awesome.

Give us the piano cd with ONA Liv. I am not a member but will have to pay more. your 100 dollars should be seen as saving you money not griping about exclusivity. I would buy everything if available and that would add up to about five times what you pay. have no access to the internet at home so cannot join...100 dollars is nothing. Prince is not working on economies of scale so I either assume he is living off past money or the margins for producing your own music must be massive.
