2.10.00 10:45 Prince Named As "Soul Train" Artist Of
EST The Decade

[THE ARTIST] After scoring a gold album with 1999's
"Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic," Prince has
Prince learned that he'll be named the "Artist
Of The Decade" during the 14th Annual
Soul Train Music Awards, which will be
handed at a ceremony next month in Los
Angeles.

Even though Prince's '90s albums didn't
match the success of his '80s works, he
still managed to issue 10 records in the
past decade, including "Graffiti
Bridge," "Diamonds And Pearls," 1992's
untitled LP -- also known as the
"Symbol" record, "Chaos And Disorder,"
"Emancipation," and "Crystal Ball,"
among others.

On Thursday night, Montell Jordan and
Tamia will host a cocktail party at
Paramount Studios in Hollywood to
announce all of the nominees for this
year's Soul Train Music Awards, with
Donell Jones and IMX scheduled to
perform.

Even though the nominees will have to
sweat it out for a couple of weeks,
organizers for the Soul Train Music
Awards have already acknowledged several
of the show's other big winners. In
addition to Prince, soul singer Mary J.
Blige and rapper DMX will both be
honored with the Sammy Davis, Jr. Awards
for "Entertainer Of The Year."

Hosted by Eric Benet, TLC's Lisa "Left
Eye" Lopez, Tamia, and Shemar Moore, the
14th Annual Soul Train Music Awards will
be held on March 4 at the Shrine
Auditorium in Los Angeles.
