In conclusion, one will announce that Prince does not say any more F(uck) nor of S(hit) words. Fifteen years ago, approximately? l??poque of Irresistible Bitch, Darling Nikki and other Bob George, it was l?un?popularisateurs? of l?outrance verbal: gangsta rapper before l?heure, sex terrorist before Madonna, it seems dor?navant lass? by any form of surench?re, as well verbal as physical. It's long so enjoy it!!!

There are those, little numerous, who were at the Palace (Paris 1981).
Those that had succeeded in getting a place for Le Zenith, 86 (They can still remember their beautiful night.) Those that were in the Palais Omnisport de Paris-Bercy, one year later, for the opening of the " Sign O The Times " tour . Eternal consecration.
In 1988: concert - review (car, basketball, flying piano ...) - just like on broadway, but always into the groove
1990: Prince plays the Parc des Princes: draw (as in no winner).
1992 , 1993: return to Bercy. The body is still there, the heart isn't, sometimes.
1994: Prince is dead, The Artist has black thoughts and goes for a sleepless night at the Bataclan - The happy few still can't believe it!(let's forget the past: so many new songs!). Say goodbye to sensuality, hello the hyper-efficiency.
1995-1997: no show
On 1998: luxury concert at the Zenith (Chaka Khan, Larry Graham ...). Almost unnoticed. You like it but forget it quickly.
1999: see 1994. (the ideas are more brilliant, Prince isn't far from coming back to life!)
2000-2001: Prince is back, the Internet is his garden. One hour of music a month for downloaders (members pioneers), an aborted US tour and then " The Rainbow Children ", in November, 2001; beautiful miracle, return to grace, fans are excited. We're waiting for the tour. He promises it's going to be "jazz", opened to all the possibilities.

Everything starts (over) over there, abroad, in spring.
The bootlegs reassure: obviously, our friend has found his smile again jazzy-funky-soul to the maximum. We learn that with the famous aftershows come the before-shows, only for the the members of the NPG Music Club (www.npgmusicclub.com: you can subscribe, there are still places ...). Prince is more relaxed, talks (!) with his public ...

And then Europe, finally , for a true reunion.
A real tour, which this time passes by Paris - in 1995 (mini-European tour), Paris had been taken off the map of his desires ...
Before Paris, yours truly saw London. " Lucky guy ", as he was told: the performance at the Hammersmith Appollo did not finally have much in common with the following concerts. Darker, more soul, still a little stiff also. Privileges from across the Channel: Avalanche (TSF's 89.9 favorite song), Power Fantastic, Family Name, A case of U... In Antwerp, two weeks later, Larry Lafunk's wig (tourmented prince of the night of Radio Nova, remote cousin tp Appolonia 6) had not yet grown, but the tone had already changed, and that was the beautiful surprise of this tour " One Nite Alone ": every night has sits joys (for 98 % of the public) and his pains (for the remaining 2% , eternally unsatisfied pseudo jazzy - distanced or blasé fans lamenting this interpretation of Purple Rain - moment of grace - or that one of Pop Life, cheerfully revivified ...). Every evening has its own set list- one can begin acoustic, or be very hip hop , or openly jazzy, or even, sometimes (but thats, even more recently, in Japan, where Prince has just ended a mini-tour) on the drums! Prince ever the conductor. This is what the "jazzy" side of this tour was!: to every city its "sound (s) of surprise ". Milan (where our "Fin Limier" in chief , 20-100 recognized Sonny Thompson himself in the crowd...), Zurich, Antwerp, Copenhagen (where was played, among others, the famous Jean-Pierre from Miles), Berlin, etc.

And naturally Paris. For two concerts - The one at the Zenith (sold out in four hours without advertisement or artificial buzz) and at the Bataclan (for wealthy fans: 100 euros!)-, or more exactly three, because before the "official" concert at the Zenith, Prince played (as in every visited city) in front of his members for a small hour.
Let's remember Cool (classic funky joint formerly grooved by The Time), or Automatic ("1999": twenty years of age...), or the perpetual but always distracting Santana Medley (Soul Sacrifice, All Saints' Day The opening) and Pass The Peas by Maceo Parker freshly arrived from his hotel room...

The "general public" concert, let's just say that it will remain among the best by Prince in Paris, and that 2002 is well worth 1986 or 1987 well - certainly, the shudder of reunion (with him, us, with Eric Leeds, Sheila E ...) isn't as intense as that of the discovery, but that doesn't matter: you can't see, you can't hear, you can't imagine, today , a pop musician capable of holding a stage for about three hours without ever overturning into ???. Again at peace with himself (was it the case in the 93-99? I doubt it ...), smiling, joker, smooth talker, charmer, Prince is at the same time:

* Miles: walking around the stage very cool, watching closely his soloists who obey at his beck and call - the eternal maceo Parker, the charming Candy Dulfer, Greg Boyer trombonist naturally jazz - funk-blues, and Eric Leeds (who did not play in Paris), most "risky" improviser among the four.

* James Brown: how can you play The Work or Pass The Peas without Godfather himself coming to mind? (Especially when one is brought to shout a few "blow Maceo! " ...)

* Jimi Hendrix: on Sign Of The Times (incredible bluesy version), the guitar is nothing else than another person, cuddled , pushed aside , hated, adored (strange relationship) -, the princely guitar used to be phallic (in the early 80s); but now it has become an obscure object of desire...

* Marvin Gaye: grey suit, skilfully sketched leaps and crystal clear falsetto - even at 3 AM ... (remember the Bataclan and this version of Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin.)

* Chaplin, finally: facial expressions that say so much, the resemblance is sometimes disturbing - Miles had already said it in the 80s: he was right, as usual.

The half-simpletons of the daily press could , once more, speak about the "midget", nothing could prevent Prince, that night, from flying. Not even giant wings. [Ed. - we'd like to thank on the other hand the dandy of our Sleepless nights: always so lively and poetic. Beautiful lesson of detached enthusiasm. Bravo.]

The Bataclan, between 2. 30 and 4. 45 !), Prince put on the other suits that were only his: singular-plural always ready to restore life in his musical obsessions - from Led Zep to James Brown stopping by the Commodores and the Ohio Players-, constant explorer of his songs, known or otherwose - She Always In My Hair, Come On, Shake, Alphabet Saint, Dolphin (almost unrecognizable), Housequake, Johnny, Peach, The Question Of U, The Work ... Prince excels at the guitar, plays keyboards as others play dominoes, and almost allows us to forget Larry Graham when he dashes into the intro to Hair having exchanged four bass styrings for his usual six... One hour of before-show, two hours and thirty of concert, two hours and fifteen of " late show " = 4 hours and forty five minutes of music! Who can say better? (This man is crazy.)

In the end, you can point out that Prince doesn't says F ( uck ) or S (hit) words any more. About , fifteen years ago at the time of Irresistible Bitch, Darling Nikki and the others Bob George, he was one of the people who popularized verbal extravagance: gangsta rapper before they excisted, sex terrorist before Madonna, now he seems tired by every form of overbid, verbal or physical. he avoids so carefully any lascivious and\or explicit pose and thanks God without forcing to do it also - to improbable flocks, he probably prefers his Members and their offering payable with a Visa Card! Conveniently, voluntarily or involuntarily he did not play Money Don' t Matter 2nite in Paris - having charged 100 euros the entranceof his late show at the Bataclan, it is true that the song would have been a little difficult to swallow...
Be that as it may, when you will read these lines, Larry Lafunk, 20-100, Nicolas O. and Philippe 2neuve and Jéjé - as well as yours truly - will have probably received their triple (quadruple? Quintuple? septuple?) " One Nite Alone... Live " (and with a surprise DVD also?). 45 springs and 25 years of career in 2003: We haven't stopped hearing from Prince Roger Nelson...
