Pulse interviews Prince There is a pretty good interview with Artist in the
February 2000 edition of the free Tower Records magazine Pulse! D'Angelo is on cover. Is it me or does D'Angelo seem to be everywhere The Artist is? The D'Angelo article mentions that he is heir apparent to Prince. Anyway back to The Artist. The photos are pretty cool! There is a close-up shot and a shot of him (with glasses) with a funky car. I think it is the Plymouth Prowler. He is dressed in black and these photos are simliar to photo from the Time magazine article. Highlights: On Fame: "I had just got out of a purple limousine, and I looked up and saw this huge image of myself. At that moment I realized the whole world is an illusion." On Death: "People die because they give up. They're been told they going to die, and they accept that." On recording the new album: "Ani, Larry, Maceo and I jammed all night long, Maceo was lying on the stairs as the sun was coming up and he started playing this lonely saxphone. I thought, If the world ended now, it would be perfect." On Mayte: "She looked at me for who I was" She responds, "If he was being a jerk, I would tell he acting like a jerk." * Mayte is mentioned a lot during the interview and she was present during most of it. Expect when she went downstairs to the (The Palace Hotel's) restaurant to get them both a salad. However, she comes up empty handed. The writer Neva Chonin describes Mayte as "looking young and lovely in a pink minidress." The article mentions that they still have a common law marriage. The writer makes a telling point when she discusses The Artist's quest for freedom. She writes, "he wants to save the world without ever venturing into it." The Artist also mentions not believing in time, The Matrix, studying the Bible, and his next project which is to rerecord his WB catalog. All in all, an objective article. | |
