Prince documentary on European television - report

I've just finished watching the German-language documentary on Prince on the European TV channel Arte, which was part of their "Pop Galerie" series.

The documentary was made by Niels Folta (Doro prodcutions) for German (Austrian?) TV channel ZDF in cooperation with Arte. Arte is a pan-European channel that concentrates on non-commercial programming, especially art-related programs. Since the documentary was originally made for ZDF, I expect it will be shown there in the near future.

It was basically a compilation of a lot of footage that was mostly well-known -- the 1990 BBC documentary featured heavily, for instance, but also the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic electronic press kit, the Mel B and Veronica Webb interviews, the recent German interview I reported on (), and lots of small excerpts from videos.

Still, a lot of it was "rare":

- live footage from Prince's 1993 and 1995 performances (I assume these were German concerts),

- most of "Let's Go Crazy" from the 1998 London Rave promo concert,

- interviews with several band members (the 1993 band backstage at a concert, Kirk in a hotel lobby/bar,...)

While it did its best, the documentary lacked vision and never got beyond the usual topics (and didn't tell anything interesting about those). The "rare" footage was nice (even if there usually was a German commentator's voice over the music...), and seeing some of the old images again brought back great memories.
