Prince mentioned in liner notes to new D'angelo album I got an advance copy of D'Angelo's excellent new album
"Voodoo." It will be released on Tuesday (1/25) in the US. In the CD booklet, there is a commentary about the poor state of today's music and the lack of artistic inspiration. This section mentions Prince. It states,"I'd pay to see Prince's face when he listens to this album (Ahmir,? of the Roots, said that the Artist lets black people call him Prince). Do you think he'd feel robbed or inspired? My opinion, over the years as I've sat in countless conversations about why it is that The Artist puts out half the shit he does (you know the half I'm talking about) is because he lacks any new inspiration. Once again an artist is faced with the reality of having to serve as their own inspiration after they have worn out all of their Sly, Jimi, Marvin, Stevie." *Please note* This unindentified commentary follows D'Angelo's own commentary. I do not believe this to be part of D'Angelo's commentary because it speaks of him as D'Angelo or D. Buy this album and hit the repeat button. It's like one big jam session. Finally, the drumming (by ?uestlove) on the song "Africa" sounds very similar to "I Wonder U." ?uestlove has said that "I Wonder U" is his favorite Prince song. | |
