Alicia Keys' Prince covers

Yesterday went to see Alicia Keys at the Brighton Centre. Her "Hype man" did a Prince impression humping his microphone stand, sitting on the edge of the stage lifting his shirt (1986 Parade era Detroit concert-type stuff) to Kiss.

Alicia's set included How Come U Don't Call me anymore - very long version - Piano riff to start with Alicia talking about people not calling her (much screaming from the girlies in the audience when this song started - most probably not born when it was first done!) First verse or 2 as per her album , interupted whilst she "phoned" then "hung up" on whoever hasn't called her in telephone booth on stage. Continued song at quicker pace with full band backing - I sing you sing section - Call me... Call me Baby... then back to slower bit for ending. Much appreciated by the crowd.

Later on in the show, her band started playing a riff "Prince tune" I said but couldn't think what it was! Then I remembered (there are a lot of tunes to have to remember). It was "Shhh" complete with backlit strip and bedroom scene by Alicia and dancer. Don't think many of the (mainly) teenage audience knew this song!

All in all fantastic concert... Many highlights... Her keyboard skills and voice particularly impressive live... especially on set-closer and encore Fallin'. Just visited Alicia Keys website. How Come... will be her next single... Not sure of release date.
We ain't from Hollywood, so you know it's all good

It's good to know young artist's such as Alicia Keys support and fully respect Prince, and his hard work plus he is so talented.

There is a documentary C.D. called MAXIMUM ALICIA KEYS and was produced in the UK. It's an unofficial biography on her and the uphill battles she had growing up and even trying to get her album released.

Anyway on the documentary there are several Prince mentions and she admits to "P" being her dream partner to colab with on a project, I think playing some of his songs in concert is maybe something to make him pay attension to her more in hopes of working with him.

If anyone likes Alicia should go out and get this because I was very inspired by her story, there is just a little background music and a narrator telling the story of Alcia.

True.
But it´s also sad to see music critics giving Alicia Keys props.
Because she´s only a silly cover act, interpreting Prince, James Brown (It´s A Man´s World sample) and Bach, Beethoven etc.
Let´s face it: She´s as uncreative as the Backstreet Boys.
And now back to Prince, Miles and Jimi...
The contents and opinions expressed by MrHappy have not been approved for publication by Prince or anyone in his employ.

Saw her in Manchester - worst concert I've ever been to.

Spoilt by the 14 year old girls screaming through EVERYTHING, by Alicia attempting to spin 1 album out into a 2 hr show, and by the dreadful acoustics in the MEN Arena.

There was a brief glimpse of her talent when it was just her and her piano, which would have been amazing in a smaller venue and without the screamers.

HCUDCMA went on for too long - she did both the album and the Neptunes remix versions for Jehovah's sake - but Shhh was quite cool (although I prefered TC's version!!)

I thought it would have been good if she'd done a few (non-P) covers to flesh the concert out rather than go on and on about HCUDCMA. Sadly no new stuff either.

Also, it would have been a nice touch to educate the crowd that HC.. and Shhh were by P.

The midget rapper blokey was hilarious - esp the P and MJ impressions.

I will never understand the 14 yr old screamers...? Not that they can actually tell MJ from Justin Timberdork, but how the hell can you hear anything screaming every minute of a show?
