Report on 1999 tribute gig i attened the prince tribute concert held over the weekend
at BAM ( BROOKLYN ACADEMY OF MUSIC ). the roots and various artist pefrormed the 1999 album. the show opened with a slow version of 1999 and black thought from the roots rapped along with this version joan osbourne performed little red corvette and she did a beautiful job ( out of all the performers i think she was the best ) next up was coati mundi doing delirious and i can't tell you how this man totally f----- up this song, he definetly needed his ass kicked. a singer by the name of rachid performed let's pretend were married and he stayed close to the original version singer angelique kidjo perforned a very funky D.M.S.R, n'dea davenport formely of the brand new heavies turned out the joint with AUTOMATIC.. i can't remember who did SOMETHING IN THE WATER (does not compute) but pm dawn did a reggae version of FREE, which was pretty nice corey glover former lead singer of the group living colour did a extra funky version of LADY CAB DRIVER, this number got everybody on their feet carl hancock rux did ALL THE CRITICS LOVE YOU IN NY this guy a part of the nu yorican poetry movement. nothing special about his pefrormance, and last a performer by the name bilal did a very sexy and down right dirty version of INTERNATIONAL LOVER we heard that he was in attendance but i can't say because i didn't see him and he didn't come out | |
