Prince Goes Live http://www.rollingstone.c...?nid=16663
Three-CD box will be funk/soul star's first live set

Prince will release the three-CD live box set, One Nite Alone . . . Live, this fall. His first-ever live album, One Nite was recorded during Prince's spring tour.

The third disc, culled from some after-show jams features a guest appearance by George Clinton on "We Do This," and a medley of "Just Friends" and "If You Want Me to Stay," with special quest Musiq.

Prior to the set's commercial release, it will be made available through Prince's NPG Music Club (www.npgmusicclub.com).

Before anyone even says it - who is more important in selling copies of this 3 cd set - the NPGMC members or the Press?
The Press of course - so don't go off in a huff because you didn't hear it first from Prince. We are pre-sold in his mind. Club or no club most of us are going to buy his newest product so why inform us first. We aren't the ones he has to convince to buy the newset cds.

Yeah, putting Everlasting Now on twice is kind of goofy...& I'd be curious when exactly this "fall release" will be released - there's not that much "fall" left & this album is supposed to be in the hands of club members before the general public.

Anyway, it's nice to see the jams that are packed!

HMMM Prince's 1st LIVE album ever and most of "the hits" are missing.

I know we don't wanna hear all the classics over and over again when we go to a live show, however, on Prince's only LIVE album don't you want Kiss, When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette or at least Purple Rain?

Also, is the One Nite Alone tour the best tour to release a live album from? Why not use songs from each tour?
"New Power slide...."

Okay...two feelings here:

1) Great! The Box Set is closer and is getting a little attention from the Press.

2) How can I take anything the NPGMC says seriously when they have the GALL to be critical of people who release stories and information before they do. Why in the world does Rolling Stone have the dope before the MC does?

which leads me to this conclusion...

There are people who run the business, and there are people who work for the club. The people who run the business do not care a hell of a lot for the club. The people who work the club probably get shit from all sides.

OH WELL.

Let the track debate begin...

Personally, I would have LOVED to have seen "Pass the Peas", and "Sing a Simple Song" included: they were TOO funky! And the call/response of "La La LA Means I Love U" was a real highlight too! I suppose Prince didn't want to pay the co$t of including covers when there is more than enough originals to put in.

Having said this, I think this may already be Prince's best release ever. Be grateful for a official live album.

"SKYWALKER": the "hits" I think can wait another day for a live release; it's inevitable. The hits are tired; I have always found Prince's album trax more interesting than his "hits". I would rather have a official live document of "Condition of the Heart","Joy in Repitition", or "Extraordinary" over "1999", or "Cream" any day. Those will come in time.
Take Earth Wind and Fire, with their several live cd's. How many times do you have to hear "Shining Star" live, when a live "Love is Life" would be too cool? All those James Brown live albums with "I Feel Good". Wouldn't you rather have a live "I Don't want Nobody to Get Me Nothin"? I wouldn't want 4 recordings of Prince doing "When Doves Cry" when I could have a live "Other Side of the Pillow".

Packaging: "One Nite Alone Live" box set would suggest something other than a jewel case. I would like to see a nice slip-case, beffiting this release.

"Skywalker": Jar-Jar delivers Princess Leia too Alderan in Episode III: Jar-Jar is a HERO!

OK, what is it with "Take Me With U"/"Raspberry Beret"?
Prince is a man who likes constant change: he changes bands, his dressing style, his musical style, his hair style, etc.
But he's been playing that 2 song medley for like the past 6 years now!!!
Why?

Cool cool

I can buy the 'Box Set' from Best Buy! That's all I ask...a 48 page booklet...? from Prince..? this is going to be interesting. I hope it isn't a cut and paste from the Bible (no offense). I'm not a member of the Club, if all I'm missing throughout the 'club year' is ONA Album. I'm fine with that...

Probaly because the audience know the words and can sing along with him, it shows a lot of unity with the fans singing every word.

Prince Tour Produces Live Box Set

Enigmatic R&B artist Prince is preparing to grace fans with a three-disc document of his spring North American One Nite Alone tour. "One Nite Alone... Live" will initially be available to members of the artist's NPG Music Club, but is expected to be given a wider release sometime this fall.

The tour in support of his self-released album "The Rainbow Children" featured Prince and his New Power Generation band revamping a lot of his older material to create an organic, jazz-influenced sound that fit in with the new songs. "One Nite Alone... Live" comprises takes from many shows and after-show performances on the tour, with guest performers such as George Clinton and Musiq appearing on some of the set's tracks.

The box, which will come with a 48-page book of photos from the tour and liner notes with contributions from band members, is to be the first official live album of Prince's 25-year career. For details on the official NPG Music Club, visit the group's official Web site.

I agree, although that version of Everlasting Now from the NY aftershow ROCKED! I'd like to have seen "Beautiful Strange" and "Dolphin" from the Buffalo show tho... "Dolphin" didn't have the full lyrics, but the guitar in the beginning and throughout was realy NIIICE.

Oh you sad, sad people.
It's starting to become pathetic. All you can do is complain, over and over again.
"Shouldn't there be Kiss on it or at least Purple Rain"."Do I get my money's worth?"
Where the f&*k have you been the last year or so?!
The man is changing all the time. He is doing that for a long time now. Sometimes more, sometimes less. At the moment he's changing very much and developping new directions constantly.
I went to see the ONA show in Washington DC. It was my best Prince-experience ever. And I've started with Controversy and saw most of his tours. Really, you don't know what you are talking about.
And ok, if you didn't dig TRC or ONA the album, fine. Get lost, wait for something else, but in the meantime shut the ... up.
And yes, being a Prince fan is costing money, a lot of. But in the end it's all about the music. And you can have the opportunity to experience, almost one to one, the development of one of the greatest musicians of our time!
Take it or leave it.

Art, Amsterdam, Holland.

By the way: I can be critical about 'my hero'. I have been in the past. But this period only deserves respect and admiration. It's musically so rich...

Go for it!
Peace and be wild now and then.
I'm a Rainbow Children, Xpectation, News and Musicology lover and I'm startin'to be a 3121 lover.
