Prince not among nominees for 2003 Hall of Fame induction

It seems like Prince will have to wait another year before he is inducted in the Hall of Fame... http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-...fid=338194

I wouldn't hold your breath on Prince getting in. Somehow, someway he'll get snubbed and then added two years later when Rick Springfield or Toto get in.
Half of the cokehead bands from that 70's and 80's-who vote new artists in- were nixed when Prince shot up and showed the world how pathetic Air Supply and REO Speedwagon really were.

TheDetroitCrawl.Org's Motor Babies were planning to crawl over to Cleveland in March 2003 to see the simulcast of the Class of 03, if Prince was part of the inductions. But I guess we will just have to postpone one year, until Spring 2004. Imagine a guitar jam with Prince and Eddie Van Halen?

To keep abreast of the Class of 2004 and to join TheDetroitCrawl, click here . The page will be updated after September 11.

Chaka Khan is available in 2004, btw.

What does it matter to us? You know there is no way he'll attend the ceremony. It's way too much apart of "The Game".
This will just be another opportunity for the media to harp on how weird and "out of it" he is now, or if they do praise him, they won't mention anything beyond Diamonds and Pearls, with no mention of his current (off and on)brilliance and the stands he's taking on various issues.
I remember in the past looking forward to the day he's inducted (not withstanding how old it makes me feel) but now I dread it because it will just point out how much he's changed and not always for the better.
Peace

I was noticing how Elvis Costello AND the Attractions got in, but not Elvis as a solo artist. I wonder if Prince won't get nominated as a solo artist, but as Prince and the Revolution (which we would probably have to wait a few more years for). But I doubt that. Wouldn't that be cool if the Revolution were nominated though, and they got back together for the ceremony?

Its a sad sad fact, but unfortunatly the talented legend who goes by the name of Prince, has been forgotten by many. I believe that Prince self destructed when he went through the whole name change saga, and his war against major labels would not have helped either. I know im going to get arguments against my comments but look at the facts. If Warner Music never offered Prince a contract way back in 1977, then Prince may have become nothing more than a club performer in Minneapolis. The fact is though that Warner did sign him, and Prince went on to become one of the defining artists of the 80s and Early 90s. In the process Prince has become extremely wealthy (not the money is that important) and has used this wealth to create the empire which is NPG Records/Paisley Park. Maybe the refusal to induct Prince into the hall of fame is a protest against Prince because they feel he "shat in their faces". Or maybe people have just forgotten who Prince is.

I'll bet anyone he does attend AND play at the concert. Remember he was the 1 who helped induct the master of the Funk, George Clinton and Parliament/Funkedelic!!! He brought the ex (Mayte) up on stage with him 2 do it, but that was when he was blinded by love at that time. Anyways, WHEN he gets inducted it will be a beautiful celebration of his talent and art. Don't underestimate the man, like U all like 2 do.

Oh man!! I can't believe AC/DC got rejected in previous years. I mean, I'm not crazy about them or anything, but to me they have the definitive rock and roll sound. Also surprising that Lynyrd's not in.

ABBA?!?!?!? C'mon!

I just hope when he does go...he rips the hell out of that guitar of his and just floors everybody there...leaving them totally speechless...and thinking, maybe Prince isn't just some sex deranged, gay dressing weirdo

I think it takes seeing him live to convince people that he has more talent in his left pinkie toe than most of these jackasses in the music business have these days.

Its all a business, you idiots. It doesnt matter. THe same motherfuckers that make these nominations have business interests in the music business. Prince is considered an enemy of the music business. He has been black balled. And it doesnt matter because that makes him even greater as he has thrived without the support of the corporate machine. He is still a genius. He is still the baddest motherfucker on the planet. Simple as that...

Well, I thought it was 25 years after the first album release, which would mean 2003 4 Prince. Whatever... I have no control over how or when he gets in. I just know that I'll be extremely upset if he doesn't get inducted in 2004.

I think you guys all have to realize what we're dealing with. It's the rock and roll hall of fame, not the billboard music awards. They don't work the same way. Of course these people haven't forgotten Prince, they didn't forget Abba, did they? Prince will be nominated next year, he's eligible then...

You are wrong, according the info at Amazon.com.

But back to Prince, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is just a business run by people who want to make money. And the voting is filled with politics like all voting is.

I doubt Prince cares much if he gets inducted. If he did care, it would just mean he cared what a very few other people think of him and their judge of his talent.

That being said, I suppose being in the Rock & Roll Of Fame will raise an artist's long-term awareness and add a few record sales and a little extra $. So it's not a bad thing, but it doesn't mean anything beyond that unless you buy into the hype.

I don't think Prince is eligible yet. Someone found out that the Police's first RECORD was released in 1977, meaning next year would be their 25 year date. It was an EP. The Hall of fame rules state that are eligible 25 years AFTER your first 'record'. Yet another person said that there is a cut-off date (like the Grammys) for release of your first record within your eligible year. I don't remember what date it is but it was posted in the Prince Music forum in the Hall of Fame thread.

And finally, what makes you guys think he won't show up? Are you conveniently forgetting he gladly showed up to induct Pfunk?

so we're not supposed to take any of this too seriously?

i hope they honor him just the same. other people seem to hold some stake in the academy's (?) opinion.
