Xenophobia Official Box Set to be released soon. Release party in September in NYC

This was sent to me by M. President http://launch.yahoo.com/r...tID=210118

Prince plans to release a three-disc boxed set titled Xenophobia within the next few months. While no exact release date has been announced, the singer's publicist confirms to LAUNCH that there is a party planned in New York City in September, to celebrate the release.

Xenophobia will be comprised of material collected during Prince's recent One Night Alone tour, as well as at this year's week-long Paisley Park celebration--also dubbed Xenophobia. Held in June, Xenophobia featured Prince and his backing band New Power Generation sharing stage time with sax legend Maceo Parker, percussionist Sheila E., bassist Victor Wooten, vocalist-pianist Norah Jones, blues man Bernard Allison, R&B newcomer Musiq, and jazz vocalist Rachelle Ferrell. Many of those artists are expected to be featured on Xenophobia when it comes out.

While all three discs of the album have been completed, the singer is still negotiating with record companies to serve as possible distributors. And if the "Purple One" gets his way, fans can expect DVD extras in the boxed set, including videos shot at Xenophobia. It is unknown however if that video would be the same footage director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) shot for an expected documentary on the event

[I guess we'll see... that would be great. Not sure 3 CDs is enough for all the great performances I'd like to have on CD, though sad -Ben]

Yeah baby!!

I don't think the Kevin Smith footage will be used(although it can't hurt sales to mention his name), but i am totally looking forward to hearing these.

Why does the NPGMC message say:

"...Friday morning in the near future..."

and

"...in time 4 the party u were planning 4 six of ur friends..."

Am I reading too much in or does that indicate that mailings will start on Friday, September 6?

Bring it on! I think this is what most Prince fans want...a live CD(s) set!. The DVD extras would be cool too!
Not sure how NPG Music Club will count this as far as its CD quota goes, but...anyway, thats another thread!
If its true, Thanx P!

Please don't tell me this is going to count for the other 3 CDs for club members this year...

And what happened to the official Xenophobia album? Is that just another abandoned project now?

It seems as if Prince took my advice...

NPGMusicClub Question: What do U, as members of the NPG Music Club, think of the latest "Best of" CD Time Warner has released, keeping in mind of course the fact that Prince makes virtually no money from the CD?

funky82u's response: Pick the best Hit N Run show(s) and release it as a live CD set. You've got all the hits re-recorded already, just in live format. I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

I'm not a club member, but based on past precedent, it will be at Best Buy by Christmas.

I thought the NPG website said it was a 7 disc set, or is the 3 CD Xenophobia set part of an entire package of stuff we will be getting? I missed out on my "Days of Wild" CD handed out the last day of Xenophobia. Who's willing to burn it and send it to me? I'll pay $20!

this is getting shadier and shadier.

i dunno if i am that interested in a cd filled with live performances by the opening artists. thats cool and all... but not exactly what i paid $100 for, right? which leaves 2 cds to 6 nights of prince = edited down bigtime. again, thats cool.., but is anyone really cool with this as a fulfullment to our 4cd promise? i am not really sold here.

I don’t understand anyone who wants to discuss this year’s NPG Music Club on whether it’s value for money or not! I’ve read others moaning about the rest of the obligatory CDs that members will eventually receive. Some people don’t seem to realise that the membership lasts 12 months, so that leaves at least another 6 months to run. Surely it would be more objective to wait for this years membership to run it’s course before deciding if it was worth while being a member!

How about a REAL DVD release as well as the CD set? I'd much prefer DVD content as a complete package and not just as "extra" material. If it has "extra" DVD content, that kinda implies to me that it would be like the bonus DVDs thrown in with many recent CD releases - just a few songs and assorted clips. I'd love a full concert on DVD. Regardless, any release in any form would be nice right now!

Dont get your hopes up yet kids. I wouldn`t get my CD/DVD players warmed up just yet. Everyone knows how the little man like to inflame the turth. Don`t believe it until you get the package in your grubby little hands.

I'm not sure why everyone is assuming this has anything to do with the NPGMC and the CDs that club members are getting as part of this years membership. If you read it properly it looks like Prince is planning this as a regular release to stores etc, it even says that he's looking for a label to distribute it. Read things properly. Don't jump to conclusions. Personally I don't believe anything as far as Prince is concerned until it has actually happened.

It is becoming more obvious to me that being a member of the club has nothing to do with the exclusiveness of the music; it has more to do with being the first to receive the music. In my case, I can wait a little while. It was pretty cool to download TRC off of WinMX and realize that I did not like it enough to buy it.

Well, how about this for a release idea: NPGMC members get the 7CD set that the NPGMC posting alluded to and the general public get a 3CD set in stores. Now, the PERFECT thing would be to have these two releases mesh but not overlap - nothing on one set is on the other. Anyone can buy the 3CD set in stores, but only NPGMC members can assemble a full 10CD set between the two releases! Now, that PLUS a multi DVD set of full shows and I'll be one happy little lemming!
