Prince at the Smithsonian I figured this had to be reported here as old news already but I searched and didn't see it. Sorry if it's a repeat.
Just came back from DC and noticed that the Smithsonian has Prince's "yellow cloud" guitar on display at the "musical history collection". http://www.smithsonianleg...cfm?ID=126 [It is old, but I couldn't find it either

I didn't know it was there either ... we visited from Florida in June. The only picture we took of me was with the guitar!

So, it's back on display in D.C.? Cool! My sister got some snaps of it years ago when it was on display there. The Smithsonian lent to to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for their "Dangerous Curves: The Art of the Guitar" exhibit last year, which I got to see last fall. Glad that it went back on display in Washington rather than getting stashed in storage somewhere.

Yes, very old news, 4 times over...
But, there is also a Yellow Cloud at the Hard Rock at Universal Citywalk in Universal City, CA. As well as his Sign O' The Times suit... cracknbush

"appeared in a 1997 exhibition on the history of electric guitars, From the Frying Pan to the Electric V. "
This is very old - I posted it back in '97 - but that was 2 generationa ago on this site, right Ben? The guitar is NOT IN PUBLIC view any longer - that was a small, temporary exhibit - lasted about 3 months. It is now in storage with rest of guitar & instruments collection at the American History Museum (first lady's dresses, old train engines, pop culture items, etc.). I volunteer at the Natural History Museum (animals, bones, rocks, etc.) - so no special access for me, but I'll keep you all up-to-date is they pull it out of storage for another guitar retrospective. BTW, FUN FACT - while you viewed the exhibit display they played relevant clips on an overhead speaker - Prince's clip selection was from "Lady Cab Driver." Thought that was a very odd choice to show off his guitar skills and to go with that particular instrument... but fun to hear it in the Smithsonian. - KJ

Unless they've taken it to storage in the past couple of days it IS in public view. [This message was edited Tue Aug 13 12:43:26 PDT 2002 by Universaluv]

I was really happy to see it there and Prince getting some "props" from the US government (sorta)
