Chris Riemenschneider: PRINCE FUNNY-GUY

Published Jun 28, 2002

Prince proved he still can bust the bank at his "Xenophobia" celebrations this past week (with the $100 fan-club fee and $250 fee for passes, maybe he could've thrown in the $5 Polaroids atop his "Graffiti Bridge" motorcycle). However, the singer also managed to bust a few guts during the first of seven concerts at Paisley Park on Friday.

{{{At the start of the show he warned, "We're gonna get deep . . . scuba-gear deep," but things never got too heavy. When an Asian audience member who got on stage to dance pronounced his name phonetically as "tuna," Prince immediately shot back, "Well, you'd better groove hard, Tuna, or we're gonna put you back in the can." }}}

Later, he called to the stage two preschool-age twin boys who were wearing the "My Name Is Prince"-era costume with the gold chain-link veil and police-badge shirt. (Kids got in free.) Said the Man, "I happen to know they can't see right now."

Oh that Princey, he's such a fucking comedian. Did he throw in some Jehova jokes too?

"How many Jehova Witnesses to brainwash the NPGMC?"
