Personally, I'd like 2 c him re-team with Quincy...those were his better days, and Quincy's never been hotter.

- I hope so! smile Michael is a good singer. It would be very good to see him joining Quincy. Quincy is a great producer. ´Thriller´ had some magical moments.

To THEMEssage,

The music industry is a high tech, modern, glamorized form of sharecropping.
"NUFF SAID ?

No, the music industry is INDUSTRY, as is the 7-11 down the street. If you don't like it, don't sign the d*mn contract.

There's NOTHING that relates business to slavery here man. Drop that.

You're knowledgable person, you should spend time out of discussion boards and go produce things..or teach others...share the knowledge.

How many threads have you seen me in? I'm rarely around here, thsi particular topic REALLY freaks me out though because most folks have no clue as to what they are saying... Just repeating what Prince has said or whatever.

And hey, how did you know I became a fan in 1984, how do you know so much!?

I'm God man...

And schooled you are...think about it.

If you mean that I'm intelligent, thank you.

Sharecropping was not slavery to the slavemasters & the elites in the South.Nor was it "slavery" to the former slave.

What it is to us "now",50 or 60 years after the fact,is BONDAGE.

Examples could be credit,liquor,drugs,women.

AMERICA has always used free or cheap labor to benefit the elites in this society. That is how business is relating to slavery yesterday, today, & FOREVER!

And to all you folks who seem to know everything about the music industry and are first in line to join some wierd work ethic against the music industry army, do you have any idea how much these artists make due to the distribution these labels give? Even if the records don't make them KC Kasems top 40 pick of the week they STILL sell enough to cover those DISGUSTINGLY huge advances they are given!

I'm sorry but that is NOT always the case. To make an across the board statement like that is a gross overstatement. What's true for one artist is not always true for the other, and doesn't make it true for the majority. It all depends on many things, like how much of an advance they get, how many units they sell, what royalty rate they get, and other things. You act like every artist negotiates and signs the exact same contracts.

Just what 'issue' r u babbling on about? Prince wanted his master tapes. Mike is angry b/c Sony wont promote his album as he is leaving them while owning half of the publishing. U lot need 2 get your damn facts straight. Michael addressed his fans sincerely and honestly at a fan gathering i attended. He did not change his name, try to close down his supporters or give bullshit reasons 4 his desisions. He does not LOVE Sony and people are rallying round because unlike Prince, he treats his FAMS like a family.

Yeah too much like an incestuous family. That's why a lot of people remain disgusted with him.

Interesting

Prince calls 'war' on record companies, and no one speaks up, leaving Prince on his lonesome to fight the battle

Michael Jackson calls 'war' on record companies and every man and his dog comes out of the woodwork to support him

That is so true. Damn! That's so sad that it
took someone like Jackson to get the attention
of the masses since Prince addressed the issue
years ago. I tell you.. that snap judgement shit
gotta stop. rolleyes Just because Prince brought the issue
to light in a artistic form, no one really paid him
any attention and labeled him a brat.

Exactly. Prince ALWAYS seems to get his due only through hindsight. As usual, he's a decade ahead of most. It's because Prince doesn't play kissie face with the media like so many other "artists".

prince has always seemed ahead of his time to me.

Prince deserves credit

While other people have brough up issues concerning the industry. Prince was the first major artist to come out to the public with the issue.

He deserves credit but, he will not get it because he does not kiss ass with the media.

Let's all be honest MJ was accused of being a child molester. This matter is almost never mentioned by the media anymore.
Prince changed his name to symbol to make a point. It is almost ten years later and we still are hearing about it.

You would almost think he murdered someone when all he did was bring up issues that the music media and the industry did not want to hear about at the time.

Why is that messed up? He bought it with his hard earned money at a legal auction that everyone interested in, could partake in! It's called free enterprise, anyone can do it.

What happened was Michael approached Paul McCartney (who initially taught Michael about the purchasing of other artist's songs) and offerred to go in with him on the upcoming auction of the Beatle's catalogue. Paul, a billionaire, was 2 cheap 2 put up his own money and talked 2 Yoko, who didn't give a shit, 2 go in with him. Yoko declined, so Paul said "no" to Michael.

At silent auction, Michael put in a bid 4 $25 Million dollars, and won.

Ever since then, Paul has been bitching!

I say he should get over it! He could have bought it free and clear with a cashier's check...Michael had 2 maneuver and wheel and deal 2 get the money up 4 the purchase...who wanted it more?!?

What's messed up is the criticism one gets from uninformed people, 4 being a smart businessman, regardless of who it is.

Good point,June7! Also, you people need to keep in mind that,if Michael hadn't bought the Beatles catalog, some other greedy record executive/company would have. You should be more pissed at the *SYSTEM* that makes young songwriters sign away their publishing rights early in their careers.Michael simply took advantage of a great business oportunity that came his way.

Prince has always fought the system and everyone pretended not to notice or care because his tactics were always strange or off beat. But people took notes, that's why there is always a progression in his direction that never truly catches up. And when they do the originator is not only farther ahead, ignored and considered lost, but the origin is forgotten. As far a Michael's greed is concerned; Instead of buying the Beatles' catalog himself, if he were a true humane *so called friend*, he would have contacted Paul and Linda and gone in with them on the bid. It would have been a collective. He also owns the video of James Brown with him and Prince. 2 the embarrassment of all. He could have just purchased a copy like I did, but nooo! he had to own it. Michael likes to buy things that money is not supposed to buy. Like pride. He's a scavenger. The antichrist calls the devil a sinner. Well... if he really wants to know... The devil is constantly changing, and only he can recognize himself when he looks in the mirror. Michael just doesn't like what his reflection reveals.
