Prince Doesn't Like 'Given' Name



NEW YORK (AP) The artist formerly known as Prince doesn't like to be
called that.
The singer, probably best known for his '80s hits ``Purple Rain'' and
``Raspberry Beret,'' tells Time magazine in its current editions that his
name is simply the unpronounceable symbol that appears on his album
covers. The latest, ``Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic,'' is being released by
Arista.
``I've made choices, and people can respect them or they can not respect
them,'' says the singer, who changed his name from Prince to the symbol
in 1993.
When his wife, Mayte, wants to talk to him at home, she says, ``I just
stand in front of him and get his attention. But if you need to say what
I call him, you can say I call him 'honey.'''
