Electronic Urban Report discusses Larry Graham

April 21 1999 (Wednesday)

Larry Graham

If you're a real funk fan then you can easily recall the
bass line for Sly and The Family Stone's "If You Want Me To Stay."
Concentrate! Can you hear it? One of the most recognized bass lines
of all time. That is the signature sound of the thunder thumbed bass
wonder named Larry Graham. You know who Larry Graham is, the
brother with the mustache and the hat that looks like it came
from a Captain Kangaroo starter set. But he makes it look
funkier than the Captain ever did. He also funked it up on Sly
classics like "Hot Fun in the Summertime" and "Feel The Need."

In the 1970s Graham left Sly and the Family Stone to form
Graham Central Station, but after making a myriad of hit records
he set out on his own and dropped "One In a Million You" and was
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. But now, after
a brief absence from the scene, Larry Graham and Graham Central
Station are back in full effect thanks to The Artist.

"We were playing a concert in Memphis and we were playing
the amphitheater and he was playing the big venue there and he
heard I was in town. He invited me to come down after the show
and jam with him and that was the first time we ever got a chance
to play with him."

Larry's new album GCS2000 was co-produced by the Artist
and it's on his label, New Power Generation Records. Graham says
that he is awe of how big a fan The Artist is of his music.

"He knows every one of my songs backwards and forwards.
He knows some of my songs better than me. So, having him
as a co-producer and working together in the studio was a wonderful
experience it was really great."

Larry Graham's current CD GCS2000 can be snagged online
at http://www.love4oneanother.com or by phone at 1-800-NEWFUNK.
Trust us, if it's anything like his past works, then ya may need
a gas mask to open the CD cover.
