Princely surprise for Winnipeg clubgoers

Monday, June 10, 2002 – Page R2

Winnipeg -- Maybe he wanted to party like he'd just turned 44.

{{{Pop star Prince, who was in Winnipeg for a concert at the Walker Theatre on Thursday, celebrated his birthday Friday with an early-morning, postshow performance at a Winnipeg nightclub, much to the delight of surprised fans.}}}

About 400 people were on hand to witness the artist formerly known as an unpronounceable symbol belt out covers of Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love and Bill Withers's Ain't No Sunshine, along with blistering guitar solos and long, funky jams with his five-piece backup band.

Though tickets for the Walker show went for $150, those who showed up at Le Rendez Vous paid only $30, with the money going to Prince's own charity, Love 4 One Another, which benefits underprivileged kids.

WOW!!!
I can't wait til the Celebration.
And Prince ain't a pop star. Please don't lower him to N'Sync or Wacko Jacko's level.
Prince is a brilliant MUSICIAN.

WoW I can't wait until the Celebration. Prince is the Best I'm so Psyched. This whole week has been weird I've been hearing Prince,Vanity6,Shelia e and Chaka Khan everytime I put the radio on. I was depressed before and then Little Red Corvette came on and I just had to smile again. I'm proud to say I love Prince and I don't care who thinks I'm Crazy or Obsessed. He's the Man! And as far as I'm concerned he can do any cover songs he wants to so leave him alone he's always great. Drop Dead Naysayers. Get off this website only true Prince fans are welcome.
