Meshell Ndegeocello cd review in Rolling Stone magazine

{{{Here is a review from Rolling Stone on her new album. They give it a great review. The reason I sent in this item is because there is a little crack on Prince at the very end. See for yourself. http://www.rollingstone.c...id=2044150

Iconoclastic soul sister Meshell Ndegeocello once again laser-focuses on putting forward her agenda: that only revolution will save the black soul, not to mention black music. Cookie's uprising takes place in the bedroom, the streets and the studio, and Ndegeocello's supreme control over the tone and texture of her sinewy vibe is the sound of a woman in charge of her body and mind. Her deep-groove soul is spiced with spoken-word clips, as on "Akel Dama," on which Gil Scott-Heron and others speak over the pulse of a beating heart, and grounded by her smooth vocals, crooning on the get-with-you "Priorities 1-6" and the sexy-sad "Barry Farms"; rapping no-nonsense-style on "Hot Night," which features snippets of Angela Davis. Powerful, beautiful, sensual and activist, this is the record Prince keeps trying to make. }}}

Like two hours previous to reading this thread for the 1st time, I had been out looking for this very cd. I went to 2 record stores in my immediate area ending in no luck. I come back here to read that this cd is the one Prince keeps trying to make. Well, I just had to try again after reading that. I went out again, driving further down the road and had success. BUT, even as good as copping(sp?) this cd was, I saw DJ Quik had a new one out for 2002 as well. Oh, but hell, yes, I HAD to get that too. So, as I type, I am checking out Me'shell, w/ DJ Quik to follow. Half way through her cd, so far, Me'shell has maintained a FRESH yet funky feel. It's been pretty deep actually; lyrically and musically. She is reaching in different areas then in previous cd's and STILL jammin all the while...BUT, as much as I am enjoying this I can't help but think that she had help w/ these cuts. Sad fact is, don't NOBODY put on a whole show like Prnce does. Even when he ain't hittin' at least its' ALL or mostly him. Prince has jaded me. I don't take other artists as serious if they're not doin' it all their own. Quickly, I am nearing the end of her cd, though she IS jammin, it is my opinion that though her lyrics would certainly give Prince a run for his money (I read some time ago that she asked alot of her female peers to work w/ her on this album. alot of them never got back or told her they had scheduling conflicts...hearing these lyrics, I see why folks stayed away...Me'shell's got something to say and she ain't afraid to say it), musically, if Prince dedicated himself to ONE genre of music like this one is, he would put out a cd far superior to this one. Or, so I would like to believe. Me'shell is jammin' ya'll. Ain't taking ANYTHING away from her, she IS workin' it. I'm just partical to the one man band. Opps...gotta go...DJ Quik just got hold of my woof woofs. House all rattlin' and shit...let me turn this stuff down before somebody calls the cops on me...lol...

ROLLING STONE ???
ROLLING STONE does not have the credibility to make such statements.
This magazine gave 3.5 stars out of 5 to PURPLE RAIN,then listed it as the 2nd best album of the 80's???

In 87 they gave SOTT a so-so review.Then RS gave GRAFFITTI BRIDGE 4.5 stars out of 5.

These so called critics make me sick.

Rolling Stone is enslaved to the system. The system hates Prince. Rolling Stone hates Prince. That's it.

Funny, that coming from a music critic-who likely can't hum a tune in the shower, much less make a great album...and he's mentioning Prince what, 25 yrs after his debut. What does that tell you? If prince was dead, they wouldn't even acknowlege him. As it is, they feel the need to cut him down.

Can i get some articles with that advertisement?

I'd have to agree with Rolling Stone that Prince has been trying to make an album as powerful and sensual as Meshell's for a while. Cookie is a banging album--heavy rotation for the past 24hrs. The first track, Dead Nigger Blvd pt.1 makes Undisputed sound like a nursery rhyme that kids never wanted to learn. Don't get it twisted I love P and Rainbow Children, a classic in my book but he isn't as raw as he was years ago. With that said, NYC performance earlier this year, was off the chain which restored my admiration and gave me hope that the raw jewels will return!
