More on Space Cowboy's 'I Would Die 4 U'

{{{I know there has been a number of cover versions of Prince songs, but i heard this cover of I Would Die 4 U on UK radio. Its getting a lot of airplay. The article seems to hint at an authorised release.

The Space Cowboy-Die 4 U
Southern Fried

Die 4 U is of course a reworking of Prince's 1984 seminal classic. This full on pounding house track keeps all the key elements from the original yet brings it bang upto date for 2002. This track started life as a limited edition bootleg. It caused such a stir that those wonderful people at Southern Fried signed it for full release. Already massive with 'The fat boy', Daft Punk and lottie this looks set to be one of the summer smashes this year... Oh yes! it also received the ultimate accolade as one of Pete Tong's Essential New Tunes.

On the same site...was Prince ever cheesey! (This is about Norman Cook..or Fatboy Slim to u and me)

The Man With The Cheesiest Record Award
We do love him, don't we? We love his gurns, we love his shirts, we love his love of northen soul, we love the way he tweeks his knobs whilst mixing, and we even love it when he throws his arm up in the air. I don't know why, we just do. The thing is, what we love most about Norm is the way he pulls tunes out of his box that are so cheesey, they have mouse teeth marks all over them. At Crobar for the Subliminal party, and the Nash Hotel for his own Southern Fried party, Fatboy brought the crowd to their knees with a Daft Punk-esque version of Prince's 'I Would Die 4 U'. Norman, for bringing a bit of fun to the floor whilst all around are going all tribal and tech house - WE SALUTE YOU!

I heard this early last week on Radio 1 and did a double take! "WTF is this doing on the radio?" I thought, but then picked up the vibe and realised very quickly that it was not the original. It is getting a lot of airplay, and it's growing on me (as a dance track only you realise) - and I suspect it could well be a big tune for the summer!

The single is released June 16th (or there abouts). You can order it on Amazon.co.uk for about $5 Dollars. I thought it was a Prince remix (New Master) when I first heard it - Its a cool version of a classic trax.

I've hear the tune quite a few times on the radio, and think it's really good. It's been given a fresh sound. Quite a few friends who aren't into prince, really like it. i've noticed that many of the djs don't actually mention it's a prince tune, just "space cowboy's die 4u".
"London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"

"YEAH!!!"

"Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

Are the Space Cowboys singing the lyrics or is it Prince from '84? or a combination of both?

The track is excellent. Heard it about 3 months ago but forgot to post it on the org.

They're on FatBoy Slim's record label, which is why Sara Cox has been promoting it so heavily on her breakfast show on Radio 1 in the UK (she's good friends with his wife, Zoe Ball).

From what i remember from 'briefly' meeting you at the Celebration...you didn't like anyone covering prince songs. So, this version could be good, huh? Esp if the kids like it.

BTW, what color are they today?
