Court opinion quotes Prince songs Someone previously mentioned the lawsuit that Prince recently won against the guitar maker. Anyway, just got through reading the opinion and thought it was interesting that the Judge actualy quoted a couple of Prince songs in the opinion.
at the beginning: PALLMEYER, District Judge. In a case that has spanned five years, two judges, numerous counsel, and lengthy discovery proceedings; has spawned multiple motions and published orders; and has at last teetered to the brink of trial, the parties debate over the use of the Symbol that has come to identify Defendant, [FN1] the Artist formerly known as Prince. Indeed, Defendant may as well have had this protracted litigation in mind when he lyrically asked: "Why do we scream at each other. This is what it sounds like. When doves cry." [FN2] FN1. Defendant's law firm was able to program the actual symbol into their computers, resulting in court filings that use the Symbol to refer to him. The court's technical resources are unfortunately more limited. Rather than refer to the Artist as "Nelson," as Judge Shadur did, this court will call him simply "Defendant." FN2. All lyrics used in the opinion were transcribed by the Prince Lyric Transcription Team and were found at http://members.aol.com/Wh...urple.html and at the end: Summary judgment is therefore granted in favor of Defendant, who now has good reason to "go crazy" and "party like it's 1999." After five long years of litigation, this court does not doubt that will be the case. Makes me wonder if the judge is a fan. {MWC} Assuming that this was published in the West National Reporter System, does anyone have a citation for this opinion? {MWC} | |
