Chuck Hermes, Director of Creative {{{During his time as co-founder and creative director for Bitstream Underground, Chuck was at the forefront of interface design specific to the web browser. Chuck’s early career was spent at Paisley Park Studios, creating package and product design for Prince and other Warner Brothers’ artists.}}} Later, as a partner in the Minneapolis design firm Stress Lab, Chuck produced creative for clients like Fruit of the Loom, Target, BVD, Heinz, and a host of recording artists and record labels. Chuck achieved significant notoriety in the early nineties as the interface designer of Bitstream Underground’s bulletin board service. In a time when the BBS was text-based and boring, Chuck helped to create a visually stunning community environment for area artists and musicians. Chuck’s work has been recognized with numerous Standard of Excellence Awards by the Web Marketing Association in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Most recently, Chuck’s design for Gage Marketing Group received the Best in Industry Award for Interactive Services from the Web Marketing Association (2001). Additionally, his work has been featured on European MTV. Outside of Clockwork, Chuck is a musician and an avid biker and outdoorsman. © Bart Van Hemelen

Chuck is a great guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him at his home in Uptwown in 1994 or 1995. Bitstream was just starting out. Chuck showed me some real cool things he was doing for Prince (confidentially of course). He actually had a Prince web site designed and ready to go. It was The Dawn. I guess at the time Prince was slow to go full blown online like he is now. Chuck was instrumental in educating Prince early on with the Internet and it's potential (even back then they were talking about online music sales).
Chuck is a creative force behind the Minneapolis music scene. Anyone whos interested should read more about him and his work. | |
