Prince - the lost decade There is a very good artical in the June edition of the UK mag "Record Collector" entitled 'Prince - the lost decade' by Peter Doggett.
The article covers 11 pages and is focused on events and recordings from 1993 to present. There are very brief reviews of albums released over this period plus a discography of US & UK releases with a price guide. This is a fairly in depth bit of work so I won't go into it now, there is a prince.org mention and a bit on how prince has managed to alienate so many of his fans. [Anyone got it OCR'd? -Ben]

I do personally believe that Prince did waste the 90's because for most of it he seemed like he was unhappy. Even his "comebacks" like Emancipation weren't that great...imagine that album as a single disc!
He did have some great moments though...and some bloody terrible ones too. Shame there isn't a copy of this...anyone know what issue number it is? Would be a good read.

I don't know how anyone who Likes Prince can say that the 90's was a lost decade, That is a Joke, He has always made great music, he has always satisfied me, I have been a fan since 1980 (dirty mind) And I have not been disappointed in any records he has made, I found something great in everyone of them, He had great commercial success in the 90's. Do any one remember The Gold Experience, or maybe the symbol album, or maybe Diamonds and Pearls, or maybe Emancipaiton, What about crystal Ball. I don't understand how anyone who follows his music can say he had a lost decade, that is bull. And for people to comment and agree with this crap is just as bad, New Power Soul was funky, I drove up and down the East Coast listening to nothing but NPS. I will agree that he went thru some changes but the music remained true and aggresive and refreshing. I can tell by the writers comments he has been out of touch for a decade. The Article should read, I lost a decade of Prince in the 90's, I was brainwashed into listening to the crap that they are putting out today.
I'm not angry just irritated by lies, and ignorance and people trying to pretend to be an expert on Prince when the truth is they never took the time to listen to his music ever, just what was played on the Radio. I believe that his better stuff never made it to a radio programmer. Peace and Be wild. How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

I preferred the 90's to the 80's.

NPS sucked. Rave was a desperate attempt to have a hit disc using Santana's idea, except that P's ego pushed most of the guests into the background so that they're barely there at all. Rainbow Children is the first real Prince album in years, and naysayers need to listen to it again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that loves Prince's 90s music. Let's face it, people that think the 90s music sucks aren't really Prince fans. They're 80s fans. Prince music has never been about synthesized electronic pop. It was only like that for three or four albums. It was merely a phase. Prince music is about different styles meld into one.

I have to agree with Xagain. After the Gold album, Prince and WB released cd's were just common.
After getting over the "Make The Music Industry regret", Emancipation turns into an angry look at what I can do. Don't get me wrong, there are some jams on th collection but... I do enjoy the Girl 6 soundtrack. It actually is a good representation of Prince. Anyway, I loath the public version of Rave. It was an insult to the fans, the ones who were there from 1978 to 1999. It makes me so mad because he actually succumed to what he was fighting against. TRC is a great cd with the exception of the awful, awful made for radio bubble gum crap he calls She loves me 4 me. I noticed UTELLUS didn't print my review of ONA. I guess because I gave an honest, non-gushing, I absolutely love everything about Prince review. Hmmm... So, anyway, yeah the 90's were definately experimental. _________________________________________
