CJ: Prince jazzes up a birthday bash

Those Nicolai kids are fantastic celebrity magnets. The last time all five of them got together in Minneapolis, they were entertained by Tracy Chapman being frightened by a mouse at the Loring Cafe. (RIP.) Over the weekend, for the first time since 1992, they were all here to celebrate the 40th birthday of sister/PR woman/aspiring chanteuse Anne Nicolai. "After my two-hour cocktail party at Morton's, to which you were invited," she told me, "we all went to Jazzmine's. Prince showed up for my birthday party . . . unwittingly. Now, how often does Prince come to Jazzmine's on a Saturday night? Never! It was awesome. He was just sitting back there with his wife, I guess it is. Both of them just looked darling. Perfectly groomed. He stayed maybe a half-hour or so, and then he left because I was taking over the place." She was singing, and her party had been occupying Prince's favorite table. "We had to clear our stuff off the little table where he sits," Anne said. "I don't know whether [meeting] flirty outranks [turning] 40, but there he was."

Princely moments

Professor Katy Nicolai, who lives in Missouri, mustered the courage to mosey over to Symbolina and say, I saw you in Kansas City a couple months ago and the concert was fabulous. "She loves, loves, loves Prince," said sister Anne. Since love only gets you so far with that guy, I asked whether he was rude to Katy? "Not at all," said Anne. "He said, Great or I'm glad. He was very nice. Emboldened by the response to my sister, my brother Peter [NYC video games developer, who reportedly looks like Tom Cruise) went up to Prince as he was leaving and said, Hey, I'm a big fan of yours! Prince put his face right in Peter's face and said, Oh, really. Peter was like, OK, bye." I knew Symbolina couldn't get outta there without being rude to somebody. "We can't decide. Was it rudeness or was this his own brand of humor?" Princely humor may be an oxymoron.

CJ and journalism may be a bigger oxymoron.

"I knew Symbolina couldn't get outta there without being rude to somebody."

And I knew CJ couldn't write an article about Prince without finding some amazingly trivial thing to use as a slam against him...

ALLMACK

Maybe Prince didn't like Vanilla Sky. Or people who "look like" people who were in Vanilla Sky.

I don't know about you guys but I think this is funny.

He's just chillin on a night out and some fully grown gushing man comes over and utters some dribbling bullshit like "Hey, I'm a big fan of yours". I think the response is hilarious. What do you expect him to say?
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

CJ calls Prince "Symbolina", which is a feminized name. I realize she felt kinda targeted by Billyjack Bitch, but, hum... a woman trying to put down a man by calling him some feminine sounding name that's really not very far from "girlie boy" is not in a great position to pass judgment on someone's alleged sarcasm.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

i think that's funny.

my opinion was that it was Prince being silly, and the whole 'incident' was merely in fun. CJ just always wants to put a spin on Prince as being "rude" to people.

and hey, i'd personally LOVE it if Prince put his face right up in my face! mr.green

2the9s

See, I don't even blame CJ for this shit.

A hack's gotta do what a hack's gotta do. But, what kind of editor would let such high-school level newspaper writing get by?

Does anyone know the name (and email eek ) of CJ's editor?
