Salon.com declares Sign O' The Times "pop's last great double album."

{{{In a section called "Masterpiece" (sponsored by Lexus), Salon.com reminisces about SOTT.

The album is a mutation of what should have been: "CRYSTAL BALL"(check what the original tracklisting was). If only they would have released it the way it was intended to be released. How explosive and mind-blowing that would have been. It's just a shame.

Anyway I personally feel he peaked with the "BLACK ALBUM".

ARJUN: funk-indie-rock-jazz-groove trio just released their debut album entitled, "Pieces"
It's an instrumental outing with heavy grooves and improvisation.

I only wish that the NPG Music Club/PailseyPark/PRN/Prince releases a REAL Crystal Ball album.

Like a 20th Anniversary Special Edition The Crystal Ball REMASTERED Sign "O" The Times tracks included release!

THAT would be awesome. big grin

But I do still think he has to deal with WB. mad

Great article, but I do think they have posted this news before, but it's cool!

nice article....the one thing i disagree with is the assumption that prince did *everything* on this album by himself..hasnt it been documented that the music on Sign O The Times was created for the most part w/ The Revolution. What are we looking at, a 50% ratio of the songs?

While they dont get credit (w/ the exception of Beautiful Night) I wonder how much input was actually uncredited.....

"Last Great Double Album"

Agreed, but 2pac's "All eyez on me" would have 2 be up there as a great double album too (one of the more in recent times).

It's been said that the Revolution had something to do with Play in the Sunshine, Starfish and Coffee, maybe Slow Love, Strange Relationship, and It's Gonna be a Beautiful Night. Their input on these songs (with the exception of Beautiful Night and maybe Strange Relationship is fairly limited though. This is definitely leaning back towards the days of 1978-1982 when he did most everything himself.

It may be the only perfect album around....

It's also been documented that Prince scrapped alot of the material altogether and re-did them himself. i think it was out of anger/frustration at that time with the fallout.
