Third party report got there about 12:15 and to my amazement there weren't that many people in
line..i thought that with all of the publicity and the advanced notice that the place would be mobbed..it was probably the 30 degrees that kept people away! at about 1:00 they started letting people into the l4oa room..they had a cash register set up and they were giving everybody back their penny (since the cover was 19.99)..the sound stage was closed at first..the show started around 2:00 with the music beginning BEFORE we were allowed in..which doesn't make a whole lot of sense..it was probably going on for about 3-5 minutes before i was able to make my way in there.. they were just playing a slow jam...there wasn't a specific melody that i could pick out...after 5 more minutes or so..the artist came out and they went into a killer version of days of wild..then slowed it down for a good 45 minutes..first playing motherless child..then MAVIS STAPLES came out and they went through a few tunes with her..including THE UNDERTAKER..and i'll take you there..plus others.. then mavis left the stage and he went into an excellent version of the ride..then..GEORGE CLINTON came out..they played an excellent medley of p-funk tunes including flashlight..we want the funk..one nation under a groove..and a few others..that lasted for about 30 minutes or so..then the drummer for p-funk took over the kit and played a drum solo that put kirk to shame!! after that the show was turned over to larry graham for his signature tunes everyday people and the jam..then they teased the crowd with a version of TGRES but it was just the loop...mixed with the lyrics that kip and the other singer (name??) sing from time to time (dance with me??)..then they closed out the show with a excellent version of pretty man.. all in all..it was an excellent show..not as good as some of the ones i've seen at paisley over the last few months but definitely not to be missed..it just seemed that they didn't really have that much planned out..there were a lot of long breaks in between songs..but..that is just me being picky!! hopefully these jams will occur every week until he goes on tour (??) next month if indeed that is going to happen! | |
