I think Renalto is the best keyboardist Prince has had since Dr. Fink. Any Mr. Hayes fans out there disagree?

I think Renalto is good...but I was stuck on Mr. Hayes...I think it is more of me getting used to the chage than anything. Renalto does have skills, but Mr. Hayes had such a FUNK about him...he had more charisma, more presence. It's really hard to explain, other than Mr. Hayes had the FUNK more than Renalto does. It seems to me that Renalto is more of a classically trained keyboardist. He may indeed be a better player, I just used to love me some Mr. Hayes..sad I miss him!

Also may have had had something to do with the fact that he was always so NICE the few times I spoke to him!

Dr. Fink was THE man for Prince's old sound in the 80's. But I just loved Mr. Hayes' versatility.
I always thought Prince ought to get Monte Moir up in the mix, too.

Remember that Prince's sound changed a LOT from the funk/rock up to 1984, and then did a 180 and back again. And Fink was there for all that up until the end of 1990 when he left. Fink is versatile as hell. Don't think he's not. Even the groups he produces at his studio are sometimes more diverse than Prince's music. Plus the fact that he's quite a cool guy. Don't think it's not surreal getting to talk to him all the time. But that sorta passed after I did the interview. I'm glad I had talked to him before hand on the phone a few days prior to the actual interview. He's just as silly in person as he was in Purple Rain. He's quirky in a cool way. It's funny when I talk him through something on his computer, yet he can blow out the Head solo in his sleep. I think his wife has spoiled him by doing stuff for him on the computer.

But go check out the interview. It's play 24/7 and will do so throughout the month of May. I wish I had time to ask him more, but he was pressed for time, and we were pushing it at the end to get a few more things in. I'm thinking about doing a follow up and just asking him other odd things. Anyone have a question they'd want to ask? Lemme know. Maybe I'll do a Part II in the future. You can contact me via my site on the Contact Page. www.theernestexperience.net I don't read P.org a lot, so sending a question via the site is best. There's a submission form there, plus dialup and broadband links to the show. I also plan to get a hold of Bobby Z pretty soon.

i love how people try to spew their opinion as fact...and then throw their opinion on someone else "now you know thats the truth...so quit your lying.." ...lol

I like Renalto...He seemed to bring about his own style (which, if you ask me Mr. Hayes lacked...) Sure Hayes could keep up with Prince..but I happen to like it when people bring their own element to the mix..Thats why I love Lisa's playing soo much...Its passion, its her own style and yet she blended with Prince's style to create a whole new world of music for my ears.....

I loved what Renalto did at the end of the ONA concert here in Oakland...I would love for Prince to open up to his electronic vibes....That would be one step closer to Prince experimenting with Bjork like sounds..
