Swedish interview with Uptown

April 12, the Swedish paper Aftonbladet published an interview (in Swedish) with
Uptown's editor Lars-Olof Einarsson. "Prince has concocted a story to force
us into the grave," he says. Uptown's lawyer is apparently a reader of the
magazine and offered take on the case pro bono, becuase he was so sure of
winning. Uptown demands a public apology [see note below] and damages because Prince in
press releases associated the magazine with bootleging and piracy.

According to the article, Prince has also blamed the magazine for his
declining popularity in the 1990s...

There was also a mention of a call from Prince's associates in the middle of
the night after Paisley Park sued the magazine. If they cancelled the
magazine, Prince would drop the lawsuit. But no matter how the lawsuit
fares, Einarsson still feels depressed. "The energy and the enthusiasm has
seriously diminished, but we're getting a tremendous ammount of support from
the fans. After all, it's for them we produce the magazine, not Prince." The
article also gives the number of Uptown subscribers: 500.

[Editor's note: Uptown's Lars Einarsson offers the
following comments:

"The article
contains various factual errors and misquotes by the reporter. The text contains nothing of interest for people already informed of this lawsuit."

For example, Uptown does NOT seek a public apology as part of their counter-suit.]
