Sheryl Crow interview talks about Central Park concert (special guests)

Found this while scanning the late show with David Letterman. It's an interview with Sheryl Crow regarding her upcoming performance in Central Park this week. It's a possibility that our man may show up for the gig. She hints there will be "some really, really special surprise guests for the show." Remember, The Artist will be in New York previewing tracks for his upcoming album on Thursday. You never know where he may show up. It would be outstanding to see him up on stage with a legend like Clapton. Here is the interview:

What's the deal with this concert in Central Park next week?

Sheryl: It's a free concert that's going to air on Fox and it will raise awareness and money for Pediatric Aids. Eric Clapton is going to be there along with Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan, Chrissie Hynde and some really, really special surprise guests that I'm not allowed to talk about. But I promise that it's going to be combinations of people who've never been onstage together.

Q: Are you going to be working with Stevie Nicks on her next album?

Sheryl: I will produce some tracks for Stevie's new album, but I've been on the road so much that she's already started working on it. But I'm looking forward to it. Stevie is so great. She's so generous about her stories. She gives you a very honest, but usually very funny, account of the decadence and over-the-top spending -- not to mention all of the drug taking from an earlier era of rock & roll. No one can do those kinds of tours anymore, economically. Well, maybe Dave Matthews can.

Q: What would you describe as decadent and over the top?

Sheryl: When I opened for the Rolling Stones, I got an idea what that world is all about. The band flies into the gig on their private jet. Backstage is no holds barred luxuries -- everything from snooker tables to champagne and lobster. Then they hop onto their private jet and are whisked off to the next city. I got a vicarious thrill from being around that.

Q: You were at the big Woodstock festival last month. How did that go?

Sheryl: That was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I just wasn't prepared for that onslaught. People were flipping me off, yelling, "You suck!" and flinging mud at me--mud from latrines. So you can imagine--it was a crowd of obnoxious young white males all dressed in their Abercrombie and Fitch.

Listen to Sheryl Crow's Live on Letterman performance of "The Difficult Kind."
