This special event took place to showcase the kids who won the Mars Music
Sheila E. Kids Drumming Contest 2001. Sheila opened the show by talking
about the importance of music education for children. She then introduced
her dad, world renowned percussionist Pete Escovedo, as well as her two
brothers Peter Michael and Juan Escovedo who joined her on stage. Sheila
also pointed out her mom, sister and manager Lynn Mabry who were in the
audience and thanked them for their support. It was interesting to see that
everybody in the E-Crew was dressed all in black wearing a long t-shirt
which said: “I’m an E-kid”.

Following was a very impressive jam on percussion instruments only with a
little bit of signing which made it clear once again why the Escovedo Family
is the first family of percussion. Everybody got their solo spots, bringing
the house down with very energetic and technically perfect performances.
After this Sheila announced that this had just been the support for the next
part of the concert. She called up each of the winners of the drumming
contest, introduced everyone and talked a bit about them before the kids
took their instruments. Then they performed the song “One rhythm in time”
together that had been recorded they day before. They were playing live
drums and percussion over the music played from the cd. This song is from
the CD “Sheila E. and the E-kids” which also includes three other new songs
and can be bought through Sheila's official web site http://www.sheilae.com. The
proceeds will benefit Sheila's charity, The Lil' Angel Bunnies Foundation,
which reaches out to troubled kids, and the Mars Music foundation. Sheila
asked everyone to buy a copy and support her.

After the performance Sheila E. and the Escovedo family signed lots of
autographs, mingled with the crowd and took photos with and talked to fans.
It was a very relaxed, cool and FREE event!
