Prince, Maceo, and Larry Graham joined Conversation Piece Wed night!!!

{{{Wednesday night at Jazzmine's in Mpls was the place to be for the funky stuff.
The night began with Kirk Johnson, Mike Scott, Walter Chancellor, and the rest of Conversation Piece jamming to some really nice funky tunes. They broke out a couple slow and mellow tunes too.
The band mentioned that they had a special guest. Kirk said that there was a singer coming up later and not to leave. After the break, the band introduced a young singer named Briana. She covered Alicia Keys, Falling and A Real Man, then sang one more tune. After that, Kirk said that there was a special guest coming and that he would be out soon.
This definetely peaked my interest and I hoped that Prince would show up for a tune or two. And did he ever.}}}
The band took another break. In the club, I noticed Maceo Parker, then Larry Graham, then Takumi. I knew something was going to happen. Then Takumi set up Larry's bass. Maceo was in the back of the club getting his horn ready. Larry and Maceo get on stage and begin playing with the band.
A few minutes later Prince walks throught the side door and stands there listening to the band play and grooving along to the music. Then Prince walks around a bit before taking the stage. Prince played keyboards and jammed with Maceo, Larry, and the band. At first they were just sort of jamming, then Prince starts singing, Pass The Peas. The band takes the que and goes into the song. Maceo, Larry, and Mike Scott exchange solos, then Walter Chancellor and Prince solo a bit. After that jam, they played a song that I don't know the title of. The song is by Larry and the words are something "walkin' talkin'." Prince directed the band perfectly, pointing to who was to solo and when. Prince was incredible on the keys! I love to hear him play boards. After that jam Prince left the stage and hung out at the back of the club. Maceo and Larry also left the stage and Takumi packed up their gear. Prince was present for about 25 minutes before leaving.
After the show I shook Kirk's hand and thanked him for such an incredible performance.
What a night!!!

I'll bet you that was Sly Stone's "Sing a simple song"

.- yeah, I saw Prince's aftershow gig at Copenhagen's Vega nightclub three years ago. It was SO good. They even played Violet The Organ Grinder and thew an a capella/oral percussion break - Sly Stone style - into the song...

Sounds like a great show indeed. That also answers a curious question I had. I have always wondered how often he actually makes it back home during these tours that he does, or does he stay away from home until the tour is over. Guess he is back for a night or 2 then off again. Interesting concept.

Oh my!!!!!
Have you noticed how much Prince´s musician side is alive after TRC? Walter Chancellor is cool, I like all the works he did with Prince (TJOTY, ´Style´ and ´Come On remix`), and Maceo is a master.
WHERE ARE THE BOOTLEGS????
(sorry Prince, I know you dont approve them, but I would love to listen to it...smile

Mmh, I was thinking about "feel the need", which isn't written by Larry, but he covered it on one of his albums and seems to be a live favorite by Larry.

"See how I'm walking,
see how I'm talking baby,
notice everything in me,
come on and feel the need,
feel the need in me."

I have often wished that I could understand that some of the fans have to hate on Kirky J.He is a musician and performer in his own right but you guys just hate on him and Larry G. That is just wrong! Have either of them ever done anything to any of you personally. And the welfare comment is that a black thang or something. You guys will forever give praise to Wendy and Lisa but no props to the black musicians that Prince were ever involved with. I can remember someone dissing Mr. Hayes on the org which is why I even joined to dispute the negative comments about him.I think he is a fantastic player as good as Lisa Coleman or Tommy Barbarella or better!!!

"You guys will forever give praise to Wendy and Lisa but no props to the black musicians that Prince were ever involved with." said by the roger todd guy...

My response...

Praise goes 2: Prince,Andre Cymone,Dez Dickerson,ALL MEMBERS OF THE TIME,Miko Weaver,Levi Seacer Jr,Sheila E, Michael Bland,John Blackwell,Sonny T,Mike Scott, and the list goes on...

Those 4 some reason deserve 2 b picked on:

Tony M, Tony M, Tony M, Tony M, Tony M, Tony M, and Tony M. Also Tony M, Scrap D,Shanka Ranks,Kirk J(but in his defense, his playing was pretty good by the time he was in the Fonky Baldheads), DVS(not a bad white rapper, but he musta watched Eminem videos a few times). Also Eye would mention Tony M as a wretch.

And as good a drummer as Michael Bland was, he gets more props than almost anyone...he doesn't have the soul of Sheila E, or the precision of John Blackwell. He was good at what he did, just listen 2 the UNDERTAKER...but Blackwell is the man. Eye can't believe the charges of racism that R abound...

Yeah but it is definitely there.Welfare project. That is just insulting to hear as a black person. And then you have the post on reparations and all the negativity. "Why should have to pay Black people anything!!!" It can be very infuriating.Maybe Tony M. deserved his moment in the sunshine to Prince cause he was there and we weren't. And I will be the first to admit that the only reason that I actually joined was because someone said something nasty about Mr. Hayes who is a genuine kind person that doesn't deserve any sort of negativity at all. Sorry this is a sensitive subject with me.And you need to realise that Racism is alive and well and it is living in America. Pres. Bush just tried to get Judge Pinkerington elected and he is a role model for what a racist is. Sorry had to get this rant out of my system. So go on with your regularly schedule statements.

- it´s true...unfortunately racism is alive, but I dont agree about Wendy and Lisa sentence. My fave bandmembers of all time are Sonny T, Michael B and Blackwell, and they are black people (I am latin). I personally dont care about Wendy and Lisa´s new projects as much as I dont care about Kirk´s. I just think KJ production ruined P´s music in the past, and it´s not because he is black or white.
