MORRIS DAY DEMOS.. wow Wow... just heard some demos that Morris Day did produced by Chuckii Booker. Man, i swear it was Prince and Jimmy Jam back in the day. There were 3 songs. one called "Old School" which kinda had a Get it up meets Fishnet vibe and another one called "I'm coming home" which sounded kinda like Gigalos get lonely too. The last one was funky as hell. It was called "Testify". I'm not sure when they were recorded but from what i was told, Chuckii did all of the music and Morris and Chuckii did the backgrounds. I hope you guys can hear this. I'm trying to swindle a copy right now!!! haha

Chuckii Booker's two albums are full of great songs with a little purple touch on them. Sadly he don't make records anymore. Latest appearance I know from is on the latest Gerald Albright album. Together with Morris could only be a way 2 fonky thang.
Bran try your best to get your hands on these songs.

You have no idea what i had to do to get this. I'm not too computer savvy but im sure there is a way i could probably post those songs ona website so everyone could hear it. I'll also ask my brother to see if he could make an MP3 out of it. I'll let you guys know as soon as i get it. By the way... im a BIG Time fan as well as a Chuckii fan so this was like incredible to me to even get a hold of something like this. how is Chuckii related to the Minny connection? ? ? He's from L.A. isn't he? ? ? Bran Which came first , music or the ear for it?

the time still rock !! All I know is that my friend knows one of Chuckii's engineers back in the day. Some guy named A.J. (or something like that) supposedly, these songs were cut @ Chuckii's crib. He said that Morris would go down to Chuck's studio in Riverside CA and vibe. I think these songs were done quite some time ago OR they were really going for that authenic Time sound because it sounds like it was done back in 81 and 82. I dont think it would have been that way back because Chuckii would have been in his teens. I cant wait to get them, they are really slammin' especially the bass guitar on "Old School". I didn't know that Chuckii Booker played bass like the minny cats. I just looked @ him more of a keyboard player. Bran Which came first , music or the ear for it?

Keep us updated. That sounds really cool!!I'll just bet that Morris and company have hundreds of tunes that are just raw or unfinished. They are all too talented to not have cut a lot of tracks. I ran a thread some time ago on Jesse vs Prince on guitar and I mentioned that I did a session with Morris and Andre. I played lead guitar on a song called Skirt. It was for a Morris album. I have two different versions of it. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I just listen to Suga Free's - She Get What She Pay Foe. It's feat. Moriss and Jerome with some chorus lines. It's produced by Dj Quick. He creates some really cool beats in Hip-Hop today. He also produced a song with Suga Free called "Cool". And guess what... it contains a sample from The Time's "Cool". DJ Quick is so funkay.
@blackguitarist: Cool. You know a little more about Andre? Maybe what he's up to lately?

When was this? Is this gonna be released? Another question:What would you recommend as an early learner's electric guitar? Are these squire strats cool for that? "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

I hella doubt that it's going to be released after all this time, but who knows? As far as a beginner's axe, it doesn't really matter on the brand. It depends on the feel. How it feels to you, the neck, the weight, the pick action, how high are the pickups. All of this effects your playing. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. That tone was killin' probably that Telecaster copy HOHNER guitar. Man, that guitar made me want to go get a Tele. I was into Strats then, i like Les Pauls now. Bran Well, you must not be too much of a Chuckii fan because if you were, then you'd know that he is not really a keyboard player BUT A BASS guitar player. All the guys from L.A. laugh at him when we see him play keys because he can really rip some sh** up on bass guitar.

Also, Chuckii's connection with the minny sound is through Jimmy Jam (his idol). Jimmy was responsible (not Janet) for getting Chuckii the Musical Director gig on Janet's 1814 world tour back in '90.

I was only saying that because i like his music but do not know his musical background too much.i seen him play guitar in one of his videos but that was about it. I did not honestly know he played bass so in that respect, im sorry. I just got his 2nd album Niice N' Wiild & on some of the credits, it says Derek D.O.A. Allen on bass who i just found out has also played with the Time. Yo churchbruva, do you know what he is up to now by any chance? Didn't mean to offend anyone. Bran[/quote] Chuck is musical directing for Lionel Richie now as well as a host of other artists. As far as production, he recently produced a track on Lennox Lewis's various artist CD "FIGHT NIGHT". The track is called "Greenbacks" on a new rapper artist named Cool Virg from Las Vegas. http://www.artistdirect.c...91,00.html this album also includes rappers Too Short, Daz Dillenger and RBX

Because Chuck is no dummy. haha DOA is one of the funkiest, baddest underrated bass players this side of the industry. i was reading a post about Brownmark as one of Prince's baddest bass players well, DOA is to Chuckii what Mark was to Prince (ask Morris Day about DOA, he played with The Time for a hot second) Any bass player who has a background of funk, gospel quartet and jazz will always win my vote. I've had the chance to check out the Rhythm Nation 1814 tour and saw Chuckii as an opening act and to see DOA play was like, damn. my man is ill with the axe. Very churchy, prince-ish, dirty funk. just plain out n a s t y. this might be a hard one to find but Chuck's bass playing can be heard with a minny feel on a track called "16" by a group called CHILL on Jam Power records. (1987?) check that out if you get a chance.

Also listen to "FRONTLINE" on the Niice N' Wiild CD. you'll get an idea of how much Chuck was influenced by D.O.A. on that track. He would be the first one to tell you that Derek is one of the baddest out there along with Brownmark, Graham and Robert Wilson in his hey day.
